Pepco did not call for major reinforcements to help restore power to its customers until late Wednesday night, well into the storm and several hours after Baltimore Gas and Electric had begun assembling outside contractors for help.Similarly, Dominion Virginia Power began moving its own crews from southeastern Virginia and North Carolina closer to Northern Virginia as early as Tuesday, anticipating weather problems. As a result, it has called in only about 200 outside workers for additional help, a spokeswoman said.BGE had arranged for about 400 extra workers by about 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to its spokesman. Pepco didn't ask for mutual aid until an 8:30 p.m. conference call among mid-Atlantic region utilities - a call arranged by BGE, both companies said.
and not enough of it to let it dictate car purchases (thank god, there is something disturbing about nothing but subarus on the road)

Snowing again
Pepco is the new Metro. Both companies should hire Michelle Rhee to kick some @ss.
... and to think Mussolini was popular early on in Italy by making the trains run ontime.
Have you ever been on an Italian train? The only thing that works is the scenery.
I assume you mean a post-Mussolini train, right?
Should I dignify this with a response?
Calm down. One of my former professors went to Germany to try and get their rail system on time. He finally said "freak it" and went back to teaching undergrad.
I'm just yanking your chain. German trains are frustrating, but reasonably on time when they aren't striking. The worst are Belgian trains because the tracks suck and they trains have to go slow, like when the Metro gets out towards New Carrolton.
I took a train from Monaco to the first town in Italy (Ventimiglia) once just to say I've been in Italy. Does that count?
