Nats bullpen shows wear. Burnett 91 mph sinker now 87. Guts it out. Now last-out dropped pop stresses Clippard. Need help from Storen soon.

Kilgore on the bullpen.  Stammen, Clippard, and Gorz all top 20 in innings pitched.  Burnett and Clippard top 20 in appearances.

Nats need Storen to give Clippard and Burnett a break.

That's not good at all. The Braves' top bullpen arms were in the same situation last August/September and they had an epic meltdown. This year Kimbrel/Venters/O'Flaherty are way down in the rankings as far as appearances because the Braves have learned from their mistake last year.

The Braves relievers have pitched 9 innings fewer than the Nationals.

I think you'll see a lot of Garcia in September if he proves healthy.

Storen is key and he's taking a while to get it going.

What about their stud relievers? I'm not talking about Varvaro, Durbin, etc. It's all about your top 3 relievers come playoff time.

I don't see any core reliever that's on pace to exceed previous levels. Fredi didn't burn out his staff by the number of innings they pitched, he burned them out using them in back-to-back-to-back games and getting them hot multiple times a game. If you actually watch Nats games, if you get hot you go in is Davey's MO. The one pitcher that Davey really pounds is Mike Gonzalez, and to be honest, who cares.

Devil's advocate... by why is Mike Gonzalez's health any less of a concern to Rizzo than Strasburg's is.

Yes... I know why, but if Rizzo really does care about the health of these guys...

It shouldn't be for the team but I just don't give a crap about Mike Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was able to shoulder a huge work load in the past, but the real reason is he didn't start throwing until May so he should be fresher than the rest.

Riggleman loved him some Tyler Clippard - he was good and burning the pen -

But wasn't Clippard also a long reliever for a while? I thought he was when they were converting him to a reliever

What roster trick do you think they will pull to add an arm for the rest of the series?

Stammen I think has an option and can't be used probably for a couple of games.  Even Storen has an option.  A Moore to the minors, pitcher for a day or two, Brown or Rivero call up works.
