Totally forgot Bladerunner, one of my all-time favorites. Got Harrison Ford off the ground along with Star Wars.

And Star Wars V and VI came out in the early 80s as well.

Don't sell 80's movies short.  1980 alone had Raging Bull, The Empire Strikes Back, The Shining, Airplane, and Caddyshack

If you like Airplane!, you gotta watch Top Secret! It's the same guys who wrote and directed Airplane!, plus it's also Val Kilmer's first movie ever.

Also it has the funniest music video ever.

And yes, that is Val Kilmer singing.

Lots of better movies than St. Elmo's Fire - except St. Elmo's is "set" in DC.

Personally, it was a good decade for Ahnold films:
- The Running Man
- Twins
- Predator

I have a pretty immature taste in movies.

Except for Ghostbusters, who you calling immature?

Another Deniro goodie from the 1980's, Once Upon A Time In America.

It's absolutely amazing how badly the 90s dominated the 80s in terms of movies. Greatest decade ever. And it's not like there were these great advancements that hurt the 80s. The 1970s obliterated them as well.

Hmmm, not sure about that.  Titanic and The English Patient won 'best picture', and both were the movie equivalent of Gaylord National Harbour or a Porsche SUV.  Big, expensive, stacked with everything Hollywood could throw at a project, and yet still meh.

I forget the year Shakespeare in Love came out and won the academy award, but that was an awesome year for movies.  It beat out Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, Life is Beautiful, and Elizabeth.  (edit - it was 1998)

Add Platoon, Tootsie, Amadeus, and Raiders of the Lost Ark to the '80's best flicks.

Here's the AFI Top 100 Movies of All Time list.

Ding!  We have a winner.  Lots of 80s baseball movies. Though Field of Dreams was execrable, despite James Earl Jones.

has anyone mentioned Bull Durham yet?

That list makes me feel uncultured  only watched 12 movies on that list Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Star Wars, Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, To Kill a Mockingbird, Double Indemnity (one of my favorite movies!), Fantasia, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Forrest Gump, My Fair Lady. Looks like I need to rent more...

If we're going 80's baseball you have to throw in Major League.

You probably just don't watch a lot of old movies. I think I've seen just about everye, except Chaplin's Modern Times, which was released in the '30's and was one of the last silent movies. I have to rent it now.

I bet if we could have a great discussion about the best baseball movies of all time. Mine is probably Bull Durham, though I detest Costner.
