Yikes. He's actually 31, not 28.

Damn.

So his 'breakout' season at age 23, was actually 26. It all makes sense now.

He's been pretty bad for a while now.

At least they can void the contract.

"Fausto Carmona" is a way cooler name than "Roberto Hernandez Heredia". So he had good taste.

on MLB on XM tonight they asked folks to tweet in their ideal false baseball names, the best I heard was "Yuneski Saltalamacchia"

Buster Fingers was pretty good too.

Rays sign Carlos Pena.  And the 1B FA market shrinks a little bit more....

Actually, one of the more interesting recent moves on the alternate locations for fielder front was the Dodgers giving Loney arbitration and signing him for $6MM+.  It puts them in the spot of having to eat more contract if they were to try to bring in Fielder.  While the Rays enver were a contender for fielder, the Dodgers will be more of a market power once they the team out of McCourt's hands.

I suppose the Pena signing removes an alternative for teams that are still in the Fielder market.

And pretty much guarantees that Linty's Indians sign Casey Kotchman.

They are the Cleveland Manny Actas. So of course they're going to sign Dmitri Young.

Turns out the real Fausto Carmona ratted out the fake Carmona when fake Carmona wouldn't up the hush money he was paying the family he took the name/birthday from.

Wonder why he stopped paying?

Sheldon Cooper, he needs to sit in the exact same spot on the bench for every game.

Of the five NL East teams, only the New York Mets will not be a factor or have a significant 2012 presence in the division.

I have not been happier at the trade of a player I like for a minor leaguer unlikely to make my team than I was last night when I saw the Scutaro / Mortenson deal went down.  This frees room under the luxury tax threshold for signing either Oswalt or Cody Ross.

BTW - this may put them in the market for a minimum wage SS.  It's also funny that the guy who they think cannot hit well enough to play in the majors despite a Vizquel-like glove, Jose Iglesias, has a better OBP than Desmond (admittedly, that is in the minors).

Desmond's MiLB OBP was higher than Iglesias' by almost 20 points.

Whoever signs Cody Ross is going to cause me to buy a hat and shirt of that team.  As such, please don't let it be the Red Sux.

Why didn't they just keep Lowrie?
