Rick ankiel has to be leadoff hitter tomorrow.

There's nobody else.

His .296 OBP will be very helpful from the leadoff spot.

But that's only .040 lower than what Bourn gives you... so it's no big deal.

Thankfully Detwiler starting over Gorz this time through the rotation. Det has looked good out of the long relief role, and his one start was solid.

Sean Burnett has been awful.  What the heck happened to him?  He was awesome last year.

Outside of the HR he was solid.

Other than that, how was the play Ms. Lincoln?

He was taking a shot at me.  Bourn's huge upgrade in OBP gets him on base 4 more times in 1000 plate appearances.

Hi haterz!  Good game for desmond.

Oh look, the church mouse found his cock. He's usually silent when Desmond is freaking up, which is considerably more frequently than when he does something good.

Over Bernadina? That's not true at all.

How do you get that math? Also, 4 more times still helps us out. Another thing: he averages 52 stolen bases a season. So when he DOES get on base, he's even more of a threat. He also strikes out less and walks more than anything we have. I still don't see what the issue is.

Lots of bunts fail.  Bunt lovers usually make the mistake of assuming perfect execution every time, but in reality the failure rate is high enough to erode the value of the strategy pretty significantly.

The rate of failing to get a hit to drive in runs is significantly high as well. I'm not a bunt lover (which you love to throw at people). I only advocate bunting under certain scenarios depending on the variables. It's case by case for me. I don't parrot something just because some geeks write articles about it.

I wasn't directing my comment to you, unless you want to assume the mantle of "defender o' the bunt" in future discussions...

I find generally if I were manager, there are a lot of situations where Riggleman or Johnson call for bunts that I would not.  But hey, that's why they get paid the big bucks.

Only time I would've called for a bunt today was to advance the runners that two players failed to do today and even Desmonds last at bat  I guess thank god I'm not the manager.

I like the bunt when it's a pitcher doing it, pretty much.  Not too often otherwise.  And Bixler laid down a very nice bunt in the ninth, too, but still it failed.

It does seem like our players have laid down great bunts but have failed because of a slower runner on base. I still think wasting an out to advance the runners with 0 outs is a great call.

Off by one order of magnitude.  .030 in OBP = 30 times on base per thousand.

I typed an extra 0.  If I meant 1,000 I'd have added the comma.

And my "issue" is that we're all so desperate for a decent CF that we're talking about adding Michael Bourn.

What exactly is your definition of a decent CF'er if not Bourn?

We lost 17 of the next 21 after that win.

'Fraid so - that Fourth of July series against the Mets was when the '05 Overachievers lost the plot (it would be a month before they would win another series).
