Congrats for being a model citizen at age 19.  You know some people don't all mature at the same rate.  The kid has never been shut down before in his life.  He never has met failure so he never been humbled by anything which probably stunted his maturity a bit.  I say by age 21 if he is still doing stupid immature crap, that is when fans can rag on him but right now just take the lumps.  Fans are already expecting him to produce at the MLB level and to ACT well above his maturity level.  I feel like most teenagers aren't in the type of situation Bryce is in.  Again, give him time to grow and if he is acts like a baby by age 21, bring him out to the woodshed and unleash hell.

I wasn't a model citizen. Controling your emotions should be an expectation at age 19.

@MarkZuckerman OK, consensus seems to be the Bryce Harper Hat Trick should include: 1) homer, 2) outfield assist, 3) ejection.

Plenty. They don't go crazy every time they strike out or miss their pitch.

All you have to do is watch Bryce. Watch what happens when he gets flustered. It completely and utterly controls him. Sometimes for the entire game. Honestly, I think as soon as Davey sees this, he should just pull him.

19 year olds who can't control themselves don't magically become better at 22. It usually progresses.

I hope so. But the last time he hit a home run, he then proceeded to go 6-28. He needs to be more consistent.

He's 19 our expectations have been unrealistic.. just let the kid play and grow while the team wins.

Hw will develop and prosper in the next 18 months

He's referred to himself as being a bit ADHD.  If so,one of the symptoms is poor impulse control.

You are lumping this to JUST 19 year old baseball players.  I think you have some unrealistic expectations of late teenagers but that is just my own opinion.  I'm 24 now and I realize what 19 meant to me.  From my experience, myself and others at 19 were going off to college and getting away from home for the first time.  No parents.  No rules.  I sure as hell thought I was still invincible from high school where nothing could hold me back and hadn't experienced the real world at all.  I had friends that acted way worse than Bryce and have settled in quite nicely and mellowed out.  Emotions are something we learn to deal with over time so I wouldn't be so pessimistic and short sighted on Harper.

It's mature that he admits.

He was safe, but he shouldn't have tossed the helmet and Buchnor shouldn't have tossed him

Looked out on the MLB At Bat replay. Nevertheless, Harper cannot losing his cool, and tossing his helmet on a pla like that with an ump with CB's reputation. He earned the heave ho.

Please. He's unbelievably restrained as far as I'm concerned. I see nothing wrong with anything he's done. I would be hypocritical to say otherwise.

It's okay to realize that in your youth, you could have been better. My father, I just recently found out, threw a lot of tantrums when he was growing up. With his parents, his teachers, his friends ... he made it a point with me at a very young age that tantrums would not be tolerated.

My point is that being young is not an acceptable reason or excuse for bad behavior. It needs to be corrected. Bryce can not keep getting away with these outbursts. He knows he shouldn't do it. Its time to punish that behavior. Guys like Werth can mentor him, but ultimately the manager  and general manager need for it to stop. It's starting to appear on the field now.

You think you're 19 year old experience is comparable to a kid who was on the cover of ESPN at 16 as the "chosen one"?

Not only that.  HE says himself "I put more pressure on myself than anyone in this world!"  Pent up pressure (unless you learn to co tain it or channel it) is bound to explode in one way or another!

He's a very intense kid.  Go all out or nothing at all.

I swear certain posters here would defend any Nats player killing an ump just because they have an intense hatred for umps. Have the Nats ever lost a legit non-umps aided game before?
