Wow, good price.

That's what the Werth deal does for you.

They need to indoctrinate him to the club by beating the Phillie out of him in the locker room.

A really good bath and shots wouldn't hurt either.

At least he won't have to pitch to Jonny Gomes

Storen, Clip, HRod, Lidge, Burnett, Matheus, Gorzo, Stammen, probably Detwiler to start the season? Take out one or two of them.

That's what I thought.

Take out Burnett and H-Rod. :stir: (Only because Stammen did very well from his time here.)

I was depressed with Burnett's season last year. I think I was the only one in the Burnett Defense Force.

H-Rod is the truth, bro. Stammen is forever middle relief. And Burnett sucked most of the year but he seemed to come around at the end, IIRC.

My original thought with this signing was that they would use Lidge as the closer and try to package Storen for a centerfielder. Guess they still might.

eh, H-Rod isn't the truth. He's got good stuff but I'm more worried about his control. He had some great games last year but he also had some heart attack inducing ones. I mean it was like the Chief x100. That curveball just kept diving into the dirt.

Burnett had a rough first part of the season but finish ridiculously well. He's a lefty, he needs to stay.

And HRod is the mother effing man - absolutely nasty - totally dangerous, completely unpredictable.  I love him

I love him in the 5th inning of a blowout game.

Lord give it a rest.  We sign a vet to bolster the pen and still have to hear about Werth.

Great signing.  If we have to lose some of our bullpen - I would choose Stammen and Burnett......or HRod (control issues) - Stammen(walks)  - Burnett (inconsistent).....

Nationals PR @NationalsPR

Brad Lidge's strikeout rate of 12.0 per 9.0 innings is the highest all-time among pitchers to throw at least 500 big league innings.

Well, it's 11.95, but after yesterday's whopper of a lie on the Gio stats, I'll give them credit for doing their homework on this one.

I loved him mowing down the Braves in the 7th inning of our last home game last year. It was the most dominant relief inning I have ever seen.

By the end of the year, he was playing in very high leverage situations - and doing quite well

When he's on, he's ridiculous. I get that he's unpredictable, but I can live with that. IMO the impossibly good outweighs the OMG - LOL  bad.

I love the guy.  To each his own

I think Ryan Perry has a good chance to make the bullpen.

I still want to send him to AAA to stretch him out and see if he's got any starter potential left in him.

I was joking about something Rizzo said yesterday, it's posted in the Fielder thread.   I admit it was a cheap shot, nothing to do with the Lidge deal, which I do like.  The risk is very small and the reward is a lockdown bullpen.  By the way, I hope Clippard is as close to untouchable in trade talks as a reliever can be.

With the number of bullpen arms we have now, I can see that as a possibility.

good pickup - can be a Coffey-type reliever, and brings a ton of experience to the pen.  And on the off chance that he stays healthy he can backstop any of the top 4 relievers if they get hurt.
