Ryan Zimmerman was not a farm product...he was already an all-star college prospect from UVA.  Flores was a rule five acquisition from the Mets organization and Lannan, Martis and JZ have not been knocking the socks off anybody.  Please.
We drafted RZ though. We have developed Flores. He was a meager mediocre A-ball prospect when we acquired him.

Lannan has a 3.63 ERA. solid. Martis is 5-0 and has looked pretty impressive at times. JZ has struggled a bit but he will be a good one for a long time.

How can you not be excited about the offense and rotation we are building for the future? The main thing keeping us from winning games right now is those pieces of crap in the pen. 15 of our 28 losses right there.

With an average bullpen we would be 18-21 right now and 3.5 games out of first place.

can't stand to see Dunn being interviewed. he's such a non-difference maker it's not even funny. He's just there

The offense is the only bright spot I see in this whole mess and most of that is because of Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn (who I am pleasantly surprised with).  I disagree with you on the rotation...I don't see anything special except Jordan Zimmermann.  The other two I don't have faith in - I predict they will reach mediocracy at best.

How can you be surprised by Dunn. He's hit the same for the last 6+ years.

I enjoyed last nights game without a certain poster.

Tonight they are back.

Not so much fun tonight.

Lannan is not mediocre. He is as reliable as a #3 starter as you could ask for. Still only 24.

Martis also only 22 and is 5-0.

Our rotation is going to be awesome in another year or two. Detwiler has turned the corner. We get our first look at Stammen tomorrow.

Actually, if Bill James' theorem is to be given any credit, we ought to be 22-17.

Oh and Flores was not a mediocre minor leaguer and you know that...we stole him right from under the Mets - he was the #1 catcher in their farm system at the time and being groomed for the bigs.

Lannan IS mediocre IMO and Martis has gotten lucky...talk to me at the end of the season and we'll see what Martis' record is then.

the year before we drafted him he was in A+ ball and hit .264 with 21 HRs and 69 RBIs (127 Ks in 428 ABs).

Decent numbers but still this is A+ ball. You don't see players go from A+ to the Majors almost ever. Flores was at least 2 years from ever contributing to the Mets. Obviously the Mets didn't think much of him since they left him unprotected.

I don't think so...everybody said at the time that the Mets were hoping to get him through.  They didn't want to leave him exposed but had no choice for some reason (I can't remember why).  He was supposed to be the Mets go-to catcher - I remember that very vividly.  The Mets fans were pizzed when they found out.

Lannan posted a 3.91 ERA last year in his rookie season and so far this year he has a 3.63 ERA.

I fail to see what is mediocre or flukish about that.

Lannan is fine, he is no ace, but would be a solid #3 guy for the future.

Like some others, you need to get away from Nats baseball for a while.  Some of you guys have totally lost perspective on what a REAL baseball team is supposed to look like.  Later...I'm not going to go round and round...I know alot of people don't agree with me on my feelings about this team right now.

Lannan has been freaking great for us.  He's a #3 pitcher and we're asking him to be our ace.  He's the least of our problems.

He was never in their top 10 prospects list. He was highly regarded at one point but had a disappointing '05 season before faring much better in '06.

Still this is A+ ball. Putting up good numbers in A+ ball does not automatically translate into Major League success.

He has blossomed into a great hitter/catcher since coming here.

QFT. We couldn't ask for more from Lannan.

Holliday and Knight were unusually peppy and positive after this game. I believe they along with Dibble and Carpenter were ordered to tone down the ripping and criticism of the team. figures
