You said you don't even like watching the Nats play in competitive games. You said they playing close games is meaningless and you prefer that they get blown out than they lose a close one. You might eventually get your wish but this game is still within reach.
I like when the Nats play competitive games that they win.

If they are going to lose I would prefer it to be by a large margin.

This game is NOT within reach. since when has this offense shown it is capable of scoring 5+ runs?

he'd make for a good right handed specialist, when someone is on base, with that sinker ball/change combo.

  They need to expand rosters to 30 so there can be specialist for every situation, even for switch hitters.

that was the kid's best game of the year.  every outing i've seen him, he's been pretty solid the first time through.  by the fourth inning he gets into trouble.

Let's be honest. Stammen lived off of some amazing defensive plays to completely change the complexion of that game.

Pete Orr just made the greatest leaping grab you will ever see at SS.

Olsen has been saved countless times tonight by stellar defensive plays.

his line thru five: 5 IP 8 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 3 K.

...You wanna know who called that pitch?
WIL NIEVES...

FWIW, at the Big Train Acta bobblehead college game in Bethesda on Sunday, I heard Phil Wood say that most MLB pitching is being called from the dugouts nowadays, and not many catchers do it.  He also said that Acta sometimes calls for specific pitches to be thrown, instead of the pitching coach.

The Nats will justify bringing him up by saying he only allowed 2 runs in 5 innings.

is this team predictable or what?

offense is in complete shut down mode as usual by the 5th inning.

They are averaging a little over 3 runs a game this month.

Exactly. Some people get too excited over a young prospect who had a decent game or two. Stammen's first start was pretty good for 5 innings and then he went to pieces. He was serviceable against the Rays and had a good outing against the yankess last week. But he has not been anything special or anything to get excited about. Even if you judge him by the bogus quality start stat he only has 1 of those out of 7 starts. He still has a long way to go to ever become a reliable starter at this level.

we were lucky we faced the Yankees when they were in tailspin. They are 2-5 in their last 7 and they are getting no-hit through 5 innings against rookie Kris Medlen tonight.

I see Clippard got some glasses. Maybe he can see the plate now.

he has been okay. not as bad as you make him out to be but he hasn't been eye popping either.

That 1 pitch to Big Papi tonight screwed him. he was on such a good roll.

Stammen throws strikes and is not afraid of contact. all the makings for a #5 starter or a ML reliever.

Giving up a HR to a bum like Varitek is inexcusable. Stammen needs to be yanked.

and it's a blowout again.

this is reminiscent of that series a few years ago when the Tigers swept us in 3 blow outs.

pitching has struggled this series but everyone knew they couldn't pitch lights out forever.

the onus is on the offense which continually puts out only a couple of runs a game. you can't expect to beat teams like the Red Sox by scoring 3 runs. You have to be able to score 7-8+.

Stammen was completely thrown off by the Youklis blowup and lost confidence in throwing the low strikes. McCatty should have come out to tell him not to pay attention and that he or Acta would get themselves thrown out if the ump started squeezing him. Major failure in letting the kid get flustered and change his approach.

Stammen is still a minor league pitcher.  Trying to satisfy sportsfan's thirst for a blowout, Stammen serves up another homer, and hands it over for Villone to do the same:

Natinals  1
Red Sux 6

An offense relies upon its leadoff and number 3 hitters, particularly the number 3. Zimmerman has been pretty bad since his hitting streak ended and the effects are clear. If he heats up, so will the O.
