I'd sign Nick Swisher and Dan Haren in FA, resign LaRoche, and trade Morse for some AA-AAA pitching depth.

This. Get Haren. We don't need Hamilton. Let someone else overpay for him.

Seconded. Would put Haren before Grienke right now, just due to the price.

Can we please give up on Rendon already? The dude is made of Kleenex. He'll never stay healthy.
Surely you jest.

Not sure this team is going to remedy that one.  These two are long term left side partners, given the long term contract to Zimmerman and Desi's team leadership role.

At this point I'm not suggesting immediate drastic action, but it would not surprise me to see those two sharing the right side of the infield in a few years.

I've got high hopes for Rendon, but he is a good example of the down side of Rizzo's high risk philosophy of selecting guys who fall back in draft position due to previous injuries.

Ryan may end up at 1st base

I'd love Swisher due to his OBP and switch hitting skills... And I think depending on what they do with Morse/Moore/LaRoche he'd be a great fit here. But I don't see him ending up with the Nats.

I like the Swisher idea too as a bridge player.  The OBP would allow you to drop Harper to the middle of the order, if you want.  I think he might be Plan B if they do not bring ALR back.  The position flexibility allows you to bring him in even if you do bring back ALR.  you just then have to deal Morse.

Then my response to him would be what Borat's sister said to Bil-O "You never get this! You never get this!"  Different context, but the words work.

I just love that scene from Borat. I want to use the line in as many threads as possible.

Ichiro

I'd really like this idea if we have an OFer in the wings waiting to take his spot when he retires.  Ichiro would make a great top-of-the-lineup addition - but for how long?

Mods, should this thread be merged with the offseason discussion thread?  they both seem to be general offseason talks.  kind of redundant.

No to merging.  Both threads are too large for that at this point, it would be a mess.  If you prefer one thread over the other, vote with your posts.
