They're focused on getting there, and for now, worrying about the last-place Nationals, a team that has historically given them fits. Philadelphia is 9-6 against Washington this season.

A sweep of the Nats this weekend puts the Phils in the postseason regardless of how the Brewers and Mets finish. Those two can then battle for the Wild Card. It's that simple.

"Here we go again," Rollins said, in reference to the Nationals. "It happened last year. We were in the same situation, and it came down to the last three, a team that matches up well against us, played well against us. But it doesn't matter. We have to win games."

Philadelphia won two of three against Washington that weekend, enough to complete a surge past New York on the season's final day. A 13-4 run in the last 17 games earned the club a ticket to October.

80% chance of Thundershowers tonight in Philly. Doesn't sound too good but we'll see. The Mets played in the rain for much of their game last night against the Cubs.

I hate how our game against the Marlins won't be made up. I mean, I doubt the stadium is so over-booked that we can't find a time to play the game. If it's MLB's doing, then it just further proves the point that MLB only cares about the good teams...

Article V of the CBA limits the season to 183 days.  Since the Nats opener was moved up to March 30, the season would end on September 28 even if the canceled game had playoff implications.  The only exception is that the Red Sox and Cubs, if caught in such a situation, and it would be a home game for them, will be allowed to have split double headers, forcing the visiting team to potentially play in two cities on the same day, to complete the season (Article V, Section C, paragraph 1(c)).

In 2004, in accordance to the then existing CBA, a game from the Cubs @ Marlins series was moved to Wrigley rather than a neutral site, and, additionally, the Cubs were granted home team status.

i think the Phillies will take care of business vs us like last yr, and we'll sneak one win in.

on the other side, i hope the Marlins put the nail in the Mets coffin.

You listen to these guys batting averages and you think "Oh - that's what a good offensive team sounds like."

Definitely. I think the Phils can give the Cubs a good match in the playoffs. Howard should be the NL MVP. No doubt.

Balester is not long for this game. He's got nothing on his fastball and he can't throw his curve ball for strikes.

Couldn't even make it out of the 2nd inning.

Doesn't he know that there's no pointing in losing anymore because the #1 pick is out of reach?

my sincerest apologies to the Mets that we couldn't help them out tonight.  like i said, i wouldn't be heartbroken if the Phillies own us just to spite the hated Mets.

100 losses is embarrassing but it'll only make our 09 season a better story when we're contenders and in the playoffs.

They'll roll over for one of the worst starters in the division (Blanton) now. This team can never battle back when the starter gets railed.

What are you talking about?  We're still in it, and Seattle can beat Oakland tonight.
If Randy Claire is not canned, he'd probably like to get The Olympian Pitcher, so I'm not going to hold this one against him.   ;) I posted this in the other thread:

WHAT WE NEED:
Washington can be swept by Philadelphia, and we'd be 59-102 or .36646.
If Seattle is 2-1 against Oakland, they'd be 60-102 or .37037, and the Nationals will get the #1 pick.

If Seattle is 3-0 against Oakland, they'd be 61-101 or .37654.  The Nationals could still win 1 game, go 1-2 against the Phillies, finish 60-101 or .37267, and still get the #1 pick.

If Seattle is 1-2 against Oakland, they'd be 59-103 or .3642 and they get the #1 pick, even if the Nationals are swept by the Phillies.
