After nearly blowing their last game, the Detroit Tigers  look for a more dominating effort as they continue their three-game series with the lowly Washington Nationals  on Tuesday.

Detroit's Chad Durbin (5-3, 4.60 ERA) may be making one of his final starts for the immediate future. Durbin has been adequate as the No. 5 starter, but with Kenny Rogers  and Nate Robertson  expected to return from the disabled list, the right-hander's time may be up.

Rogers has been on the DL all season after having surgery on his left shoulder in March, and is scheduled to make his first start on Friday against Atlanta.

Jason Simontacchi  (4-4, 4.84) tries to win his third straight start for the first time in more than five years for Washington.

Simontacchi gave up one run and nine hits in seven innings of a 3-1 win over Baltimore on Thursday.

Before getting into tonight's thread, I didn't get to see any good replays (since they refuse to show replays at RFK) of the play at the plate and the one where Logan was doubled up at first. Did they show any good shots on the broadcast? Were they safe or out?

I thought that we had the out at home, but even Bob and Don said if Schneider's hand was over the foot, he's out, if the hand is under the foot, he's safe. Just too close to call, IMHO.

Ayala will be back Friday. I think Abreu's cup of coffee runs out after tomorrow night's game. Brandon Watson's streak is over so he will be back with the parent tomorrow night. Fick on the bereavement list, probably means his mom is nearing the end  :'( Bergmann back on Tuesday in Atlanta. I think that means Speigner's days in the starting rotation are over or perhaps Bacsik will start Monday and be sent down the next day  :D. Escobar tweaked his ankle last night so, truly, let's forget about him.

I saw this all on MASN as well, just great news.  Can't wait for Bergmann and Ayala to come back.  It will also be interesting to see if Watson can do anything up here.  Oh yeah, John Lannan got promoted to AAA after pitching well in both Single-A and Double-A.  I think he will compete for a spot on our starting rotation next April.

That's a bold prediction concerning Lannan. Have you seen his numbers for this season at both levels?

Yes.
Numbers at Single-A Potomac:
6-0 2.13 ERA 50.2 IP 31 H 15 BB 3 HR 35 K (.179 avg. against)

Numbers at Double-A Harrisburg:
3-2 3.25 ERA 36 IP 31 H 15 BB 2 HR 20 K (.233 avg. against)

He doesn't give up a lot of hits and he rarely gives up the long ball.  Lannan is 6' 5" 200 lbs and he is a lefty (22 years old).

HOw serious is it?

They said it isn't that serious but with Escobar a mosquito bite requires surgery and a DL stint.

1-0.. That's what happens when you walk hitters and hang ridiculous breaking balls.  As I said yesterday, for us to beat these guys we are going to have to score in the double digits.

Wow that ballgirl sucks. She didn't even give an effort. The ones from last night were decent though.
