Looking at one more Nationals pitcher, the team drafted A.J. Cole in the fourth round of 2010, but a year later traded him to Oakland along with Derek Norris as part of the Gio Gonzalez deal.
As a member of the Athletics, Cole started well enough going 6-3, 2.07 at Class-A Burlington over 19 starts and 95 innings, then hitting the wall at the High-A California League with an 0-7, 7.82 record over eight starts and 38 innings.
That was enough for Oakland to trade Cole back to the Nationals last Hot Stove session (as part of the three-way deal that included Mike Morse), where at High-A Potomac this year, the right-hander seems to have righted his ship with a 4-2, 4.16 mark over 13 starts and 71.1 innings.
Cole has allowed 72 hits, but just 18 walks (1.262 WHIP), and fanned 81 hitters, winning the circuit Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season. That probably also provides some redemption to himself and probably the team who selected him in the first place.
As indicated, Washington is solid with their young pitchers and the 21-year old Cole's continued success could mean time at Harrisburg before 2013 winds down, and maybe time with Jordan in a Nationals uniform by sometime next year.
