You root for the skins who were 'stolen'  from Montreal Boston,  the wizards were 'stolen'  from baltimore- teams move as demographics change

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/2013/01/10/junior-seau-had-brain-disease-cte/DFdexgzxJwED3MTB8f3VyO/story.html

Quote
Junior Seau, one of the NFL’s best and fiercest players for nearly two decades, had a degenerative brain disease when he committed suicide last May, the National Institutes of Health told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Results of an NIH study of Seau’s brain revealed abnormalities consistent with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

‘‘The brain was independently evaluated by multiple experts, in a blind fashion,’’ said Dr. Russell Lonser, who oversaw the study. ‘‘We had the opportunity to get multiple experts involved in a way they wouldn’t be able to directly identify his tissue even if they knew he was one of the individuals studied.’’

The NIH, based in Bethesda, Md., conducted a study of three unidentified brains, one of which was Seau's. It said the findings on Seau were similar to autopsies of people ‘‘with exposure to repetitive head injuries.’’

One of the reasons I'm not really an NFL fan.  I follow the Pats, don't root against Washington, mostly out of loyalty.  But the size of these guys, the speed, and the punishment they inflict make the game more of a snuff film than a sport.

And now that the science is starting to show that repeated small blows to the brain can be as dangerous as big concussions, you have to wonder about the future of the game.  at some point there are going to be some huge lawsuits.

I wonder how many people are going to let their children play in the face of recent research. I know I wouldn't.

From the What Took Them So Long department - Jaguars fire coach Mularkey after worst season in team's history: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/mike-mularkey-fired-jacksonville-jaguars-163712831--nfl.html

That franchise is dying...it'll probably be the next one to pull up stakes (LA, anyone?).

i was in jacksonville a few weeks ago and listened to local radio - they mentioned a big conflict between the GM and coach over the QB, that Mularky wanted Henne but the GM pushed Gabbert.

Rainey waived by the Steelers.   Good thing there's no double standard.

Browns hire Rob Chudniski as their coach for at least the upcoming season.

Eh. Not incredibly inspiring, but not horrible. At least he has a decent track record going back several years. Apparently, he wants to hire Norv Turner as the offensive coordinator, which may be enough for me to give up on the Browns completely. Turner has been one of my least favorite coaches in the NFL for years. The thought of actually being forced to root for him is gag-inducing.

Too bad Cam ain't comin' with him.    I'm not a Browns' hater like some Steelers fans.  However, I do like to razz Browns' fans like my cousins in Medina, Youngstown and Wooster.   :)     Looks like they're hopin' to have found the next prodigy.     I'm with Vega though   ...   Norv Turner as OC would be a tough pill to swallow.    It seems to me his OC credentials were based solely on three HOF'ers.    Since then, he's been mediocre as any type of coach   ...  despite a few flashes.    Sometime though, you can just look at (and listen to) a man and not like him.   That's Norv Turner.   I can't imagine watching my beloved team with the camera flashin' him every once in a while.   It would ruin the whole watching experience.    Gawd help you if you have to listen to a post game interview.

Norv Turner is the offensive version of Lovie Smith.
