So you only like them because they are winning?

I don't expect Morse back much before September. More likely to get hitting from Harper. Not much different than last season...not much from the OF.

Morse is expected back before the ASB. That's the official line, anyway.

Morse and maybe Harper will help this offense. I'm content to find an in-house solution (Lombo, Nady, DerRosa, etc) until then.

I shudder to think how antsy for more offense some people would be if the Nats were not winning.

I think Lombo has pretty much earned a couple of starts in LF.  He's not Matt Kemp, but he'll get on base and doesn't seem to strike out very often.

Lombo needs to get some starts. We need that OBP at the top of our lineup.

I love this team's start and their no-quit attitude. I think that to a certain extent we have created our own luck, but I still feel like we have to be the luckiest team in MLB right now pulling these wins out of our ass. Our lineup needs to wake up before our rotation comes back down to earth or we're going to have a rough road trip next week.

Last I checked, Harper is no where close.

qualified batters (101)  - rank in the NL - P/PA

Werth - 2d - 4.66
LaRoche - 19th - 4.12
Espinosa - 25th - 4.04
Ramos - 31st - 4.00
RZ - 46th - 3.83
Lge Avg - 3.81
Desmond - 86th - 3.48

Team - 4th - 3.91

While I remain to be convinced, Danny is seeing .2 more pitches per plate appearance this year.  That's a nice skill for a top of the order guy.  That, and a .346 OBP so far, is beginning to convince me he may be a top of the order guy after all.  Small sample size, of course, but bears watching.  Strange also to see he's hitting a lot more balls on the ground vs. in the air, which may explain the power drop.  It's looking like he really has changed his hitting approach at the start of the year.  The question is, is this his normal or new normal?

All it will take is a hot streak of one week before everyone starts to call for him.

Seriously though, I think there's still time for him to work on some stuff and be ready by June. Two months is a long time....

To be honest, I want him up so he can help us this year, sure, but also to get acclimated to MLB and then really hit the ground running next year.

With Espinosa's new eye for walks, the only spot that bothers me is LF. Free Lombo. Let him start.

I hope Morse is healthy by mid-August, and hope that Harper is ready by then. Who knows...maybe Bernadina can hit .260 or .275 in left?

Welch, the team said he should be ready by the ASB. Are you not buying?

Six weeks of rest, 2 weeks of rehab, starting from around OD when they announced it.

My answer: "The team said..."

Has the team ever accurately predicted an injury? I was looking for Chief's last game, and got linked to a Ladson article about Shawn Hill. He'll be back soon, Ladson said, yes, the Nats young ace will be back in a few days.

Lombo needs to start in LF. He's hitting. Anyone we put in LF isn't.

The Nats have two hits tonight, both by Ankiel.  That's pretty bad...

This team is pretty much what most of us thought it would be. Outstanding pitching, but not a whole lot of offense. There's going to be a lot of nights like tonight this season. If the pitching falters, this team will be dead in the water. Morse will help, but I'm not sure he's going to suddenly make this team start lighting up the scoreboard.

It's okay, we can't get serious until next season anyway b/c of Strasburg's innings limit :stir:

Which is perfect since this'll finally be the offseason that we fix the offense ;)

I really do wonder what Rizzo's plan for EJax is, though.  If he does what Dunn did, he's going to pitch himself right out of our price range.

He's always been out of our price range. Like renting a Limo vs owning one.

Or we'll trade him at the deadline. Jackson plus some odds and ends got the Blue Jays Colby Rasmus

Jackson to the Yanks for Brett Gardner?  Rockies for Fowler?

I don't see Jackson being traded.
