I'm hoping August. Then a rest. The 160 innings of Harrisburg and Syracuse in 2014. Then Nats in 2015. Rotation of Strasburg, Gio, Zimmermann, Detwiler, Little Gio.

He would have to have a heck of a 2014 season to get called up in 2015 but that would be awesome if it happened.

Can't wait to get him back on the bump. But he'll be in Florida all year. There's no way in hell he reaches Potomac this year.

May 25 update from Kerr:

Quote
"(Giolito) is in his progression on the return from Tommy John," Harris said. "This is where you are really conditioning his arm. He had a lengthy side session when I was in Florida. The ball is really coming out of his hand well. He is doing an excellent job with everything."

I hope they let him pitch an inning or two in late August...Hagerstown or Potomac...just to break from the isolation of rehabbing off in Florida. Nothing heavy, but a taste of pro ball.

They sent purke to the afl as a reliever last year.  I don't see why they can't do the same with gio

Purke was an elite college player, Giolito is younger and hasn't faced anything close to AFL hitting- if they want to move slowly with him, I have no problem with that- especially if he's just going to end up pitching BP to elite prospects (not saying he's not elite or won't be great, but he's young with no pro experience and coming off injury)

Yeah no reason to put Giolito in the AFL. Completely different situation from Purke.  Gio is coming off almost a year and half off, and expect him to pitch off an injury against guys close to the bigs? He's going to struggle with command and guys would knock him around a bit. No reason for the potential blow to his confidence.

It's be great for him to get a few innings in real games to get the monkey off his back heading into the off season. A
There's always that what if thought in the back of your mind before you return to game action. Get that out of the way so he's got a full off season with no doubts in his mind.

how do instructional leagues work? Will he be pitching against live hitters while rehabbing?

I dont know all the rules, but there is live action against other teams. Im sure there will be a lot of intersquad action as well. So there is live action, but a lot of individual attention as well.

Sounds like the place for Espi...(as I just mentioned in his thread. Don't know much about instructional leagues.)
