I had a growler filled at Rockbottom last summer. They only fill their own growlers. So, the bartender put a Rockbottom sticker on it.
We need to gather a list of the WNFF Homebrewers and have a brew swap.
MadFox in Falls Church makes great beer. The owner is Bill Madden, who was the brewer at Capitol City for years.MadFox is now selling their beer in DC at Granville Moore, Big Hunt, and Meridian Pint
You're going to need a few additional tasters.
a few brave men?I view my home brews like a batting average- I'm ecstatic if I hit .300
Really? How do you brew? Kits? Recipes? Winging it with your own recipes? My average is much closer to 90-95%....
Initially, having a policy of only refilling the establishment's growlers may have been based in the idea of increasing brand loyalty. But as soon as a couple of places broke away from that policy, most brewers realized it was better not to require the glass have been from their establishment
mostly recipes, but I usually add lib spices and extracts - it can either work really well- a box of crushed kumquats in the boiler along with belgian candi and a trappist yeast made one of my favorite beers of all time, other times not so much. If I follow a standard recipe, I can get what the recipe is going for, but I like to try for stuff that I can't buy and my imagination often gets the better of me.
Brewed my first batch today! I gave my Dad Mr. Beer for Christmas and he hadn't used it yet so while watching the game and enjoying the AC over at his place I broke it out.
What type/flavor did you make ?
IPA, it was their top rated mix.
Good for you. I understand IPAs can be tricky. But if it's top rated, they must have had success. How long in fermentation ?
The Mr Beer process is fairly easy, it's the same instructions for every.7-14 days in the keg, then 7-14 more in the bottles before it's ready, we're going to give it the full 28 days.
2-2-2 is the magic number. Despite what the insructions say I am not going shorter.
Minimum 2 weeks in the fermenter, 2 weeks carbonating in the bottle, and 2 weeks conditioning.
Just get a hydrometer - they cost less than $10 and they tell you exactly when to bottle
