Who's Chris Shelton?

A few years ago, the Tigers broke camp with a 1B named Chris Shelton who, as I wrote, hit 9 homers in his first 13 games. But the streak ended in late April and by midsummer he was back in the minor leagues. He bounced back and forth that season and racked up 100 more games, during which he managed only 7 homers. He has not been a significant major leaguer since, obviously.

Adam, you keep this up and we'll be saying Prince who? I was just plain wrong and I apologize. Your defense is good too.

Agreed. (Happily) This only through three games, but last season he never had a respectable pair of games, hitting-wise.

And LaRoche has had 2 consecutive +25 homer seasons!

There could be any number of people that fit that bill though.  Hell, you could dig up a real ghost and go with Kevin Maas.

I remember Kevin Maas, but do not remember this:

Quote
Like Mattingly, Maas was a left-handed batter. As a result many of his home runs went into the right field stands. About halfway through the season a group of a dozen or so young ladies began wearing "Maas-tops" to Yankees home games and sitting in the right field stands. Whenever Maas hit a home run to right, the girls would get up, remove their tops and jump up and down until Maas finished circling the bases.[6] However after a few home runs the women were banned from entering Yankee Stadium.[citation needed]

"Remember Brian Roberts?"

"No, and he doesn't either."

Possibly the best reply ever.

I am fairly confident LaRoche is going to return to career average LaRoche this season and compared to last season that will look great, but still nothing as good as Prince Fielder.

+1

Average, but not star quality, let alone superstar quality.

Then again, as you mentioned... Average LaRoche >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Last year LaRoche

I'll apologize to Adam LaRoche when we get to the playoffs based upon his play.  He owes us for the crapstorm that was 2011 - injury or not.

If Adam can help us take two games in the Mets series and keep us above .500 til Morse gets back then I'll think off apologizing. Hopefully he is returning to his normal year and just starting off fast for whatever reason.

We all realize MDS is not capable of cheering when players do well and just remaining silent when players do poorly.  That's what a good fan would do.  But all the criticism out of MDS doesn't matter anyway

10k+ postings and I think we can say that with some degree of statistical certitude

I am sure he willed the injury on himself and the subsequent surgery and tedious rehab. You should appologize now.

I love how the people screaming "small sample size!!!" are the exact same people who condemn the player for one bad game.  I don't think LaRoche is about to have a career year and make us suddenly forget about Fielder but I also don't think he's done yet as a player. So I guess I'm not a shiner or part of the LoD. Is there a middle ground for reasonable fans?

I was generalizing of course. Not everyone fits into it, or else I would have had to be talking about myself too.

I don't think anyone, outside of SF and that's debatable, has.
