Here are two names most Nationals fans likely don't know: Jim Cuddihy, the executive vice president of programming for MASN, and Chris Kinard, the program director at 106.7 the Fan. They are behind the regular-season television and radio coverage of the Nationals and are ready for playoff baseball.

With the Nationals' playoff games on TBS and/or MLB Network, how will that affect your coverage?

Cuddihy » "All season long we have been the home of the Nationals and the Orioles. Both teams have set all time highs in ratings, and fans expect us to be there for them in the playoffs. We all know that TBS and Fox will do a fine job covering the games, but it just won't be the same as having Bob Carpenter, F.P. Santangelo and Kristina Akra on hand covering the team. So we will be sending them to all the games as part of our extended versions of the "Nats Xtra" pre- and postgame shows. They will air an hour before each game, Then after the game is over we will come back for an hour postgame. As always, Johnny Holliday and Ray Knight will anchor the shows. We also will have Saturday and Sunday morning editions of 'Nats Talk Live' with Phil Wood to give fans a chance to talk about the games. Our goal is simple: give the fans plenty of up-to-date information from people who have covered the team every day since spring training."

On the radio side, what are your plans?

Kinard » "We have the advantage of airing all the games through the World Series, so fans can continue to hear Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler do the broadcasts. But we have really moved into playoff mode in a big way. We will have a three-hour pregame show with Holden Kushner and Danny Rouhier handling the duties. Then we have the game followed by our postgame. Following the games, there will be three more hours of 'Nats Talk,' 45 minutes hosted by Phil Wood with contributions from Slowes and Jageler and then about two more hours hosted by Bill Rohland. That is a minimum of nine straight hours of Nationals coverage --not counting our extensive daily coverage on all our shows."

It's a good thing the Nats are staying on their home station, since the local ESPN Radio outlet simply has too many football commitments to squeeze anything else in. We may not get any baseball today or tomorrow on 980 (not even the AngelO's opener tomorrow since it goes up against the all-important Burgundy and Gold) since the schedule, as currently reported on their site (espn980.com/onair) has nothing for tomorrow and one unspecified match for this afternoon sandwiched between Maryland-Wake Forest and Notre Dame-Miami - but since the kick-offs are 15.30 and 19.30 respectively, good luck shoe-horning that one in. And tomorrow there are of course the Redskins who are practically an all-day affair on 980 during matchdays, along with Sunday Night Football. Unless Notre Dame-Miami and/or SNF get seconded to sister station AM-570 (they are the official Redskins and Maryland station so those are staying put regardless), tomorrow's Nats opener will be all she wrote as far as Radioland is concerned.

Interesting given, as noted earlier, the extent of 980's football commitments (although I do remember, the last time the Nats were on Sunday night, we had a choice of radio coverage, either C&D or ESPN).

Sorry baseball fans, nothing on 980 today - AM-570 is currently carrying Tigers-A's (listenable here in south Arlington amid static)...980 is carrying Georgia-South Carolina (currently at halftime) instead of the previously announced Notre-Dame Miami; whether they'll join Giants-Reds in progress once the football ends remains to be seen.

Updating - 980 did ultimately switch over to Reds-Giants once football was over (prior to that I listened to it on 570 in surprisingly good sound - the weather must have been really right).

Per the listings in the Post print edition this morning, Cardinals-Nats is all we're getting today in Radioland, except for whatever may be seconded to 570 (admittedly difficult to shoe-horn the other three matches in on an NFL Sunday).

Looks like we're getting both matches today on (relatively) clear-channel radio - ours on FM-106.7 of course, and AngelO's-Yankees on AM-980 with Monday Night Football seconded to AM-570 (per listings in this morning's Post print edition).
