Braces???

I've been informed by a dentist that i need braces. I have a slight overbite and the low row have some crooked teeth. ANyway, my health insureance i don't think will pay for the braces.


Does anybody know how much braces cost? and how long do you have to wear braces? I don't want em, but i figure its best to get em while young, then to be old and wearing em.

And if anybody can recommend a place in the DC urea where there cheap.........

I think the Post had an article yesterday about US citizens going to Mejico for dental work. one fourth cheaper. wish I could give you a link to the article but if I find it I will give to you.

Braces can cost a pretty penny, especially if your dentist has you come in every month for check up, maintenance, and changing the rubber bands.

The length you wear them is determined by the "problem" in your mouth (for a lack of a better way of saying it) and what your doctor recommends.  I had braces two times during my life.  The first time was to correct crooked teeth and I wore them for about two years and then had them removed.  A year later my wisdom teeth screwed up some teeth coming in so I had the wisdom teeth removed and had braces put in on only one side of my mouth where the problem was.  My second round was only for a year.

What is worse if they have you wear "head gear" which helps correct things like overbite, etc.  Such a dinosaur way of dental health.  Unsightly and uncomfortable.  Been awhile since I experienced that so I don't know if its even in practice anymore.  If it is, it might just be easier to have the teeth pulled.

Can't really recommend anyone considering I currently do not live in the DC area but the dentist will probably recommend you to a specialist or orthodontist.  Good luck.

I'm not sure cheap is the way to go with something that important, but regardless, here's a link to the Orthodontist that is doing both of our kids.  We think he does a terrific job, and is doing all the latest stuff, a big improvement over when I grew up for sure.

Also, he is a big Nats supporter, last year he bought over 700 tickets for his staff, patients, and their families to go to a Nats game.  Look around his web site, I think there are pictures from the game posted.  He's in the Vienna/Oakton area.

PRops to everybody. ANd to NOTLD, no i won't be needing all that helemt geear on my face. LOL, as soon as my doctor said braces, i questioned about that very subject. I never ever seen any kjid with all that equipment on their face. ONly on tv. Imagine the torture and abuse(verbally) that a kid in school would go thru with all that device on his face.
