I think the threads are too scrunched or too hard to distinguish from one another. I've tried to play with 2.0 a couple times but end up switching back to the default.

This look better to you?

i vote for keeping the page list under the thread title when you get the results of clicking on "recent unread posts"

I haven't yet decided where (if anywhere) to put the page list.  But let me ask you an honest question with zero sarcasm - are the page links really that useful?  When do you ever click on one that isn't the first page or the last page?  For the former, you can click on the thread title.  For the latter, you can click on the "last post" icon

i always click on the last page, but I find it to be more natural to have the page list right under the thread title.  My eyes are already over there and the mouse is in that area since "show unread posts..." is right above the topic list.  So it's more natural to just read through the list of threads, and click on the last page number, then to go all the way over to the right and click on "latest post".

Right now I'm finding myself clicking on the thread title, then navigating to the last page.  Also, I find it interesting to see right away the length of a particular thread.

Thanks for the feedback.  I won't make any promises, but I'll keep it in mind.  Making everybody happy is going to be hard ;)

One other thing - Do you not like clicking the "new" post button?

And what are you using to get to recent unread posts?  I thought most people used the DC logo in the forum banner but your description makes it sound like you're using the link next to your avatar.

new post button is fine.

I click the show unread link next to my avatar, I never knew the DC button does the same thing.

I use the DC logo on a tablet and the link on a computer.

It is likely too much hassle but it would be nice to have a double sized buttons theme for tablets or phones.

Again, no promises, but I have some ideas in mind.  This theme is the priority for now, as I'm going to be making it the forum default once I'm happy with it.

I always use the link next to my avatar.  Sometimes I try the other one "show new replies to your posts" which pulls up some older ones I haven't read yet.

Feedback helps a lot, thanks to everyone who has spoken up.  Glad tom and imref spoke up about the avatar links, I had been planning to just get rid of that section altogether, but if people are using it I'll leave it in.

Request:
For the list of topics with unread posts, is it possible to have some way of alternatively shading each topic row?  For example, every other topic row would be shaded with a lighter color?

I hope I'm being clear.  The reason for my request is that when I click on "unread posts...", and scroll over to the right to click on "latest post" I'm having a hard time staying in the correct row.

So...

Thread 1
Thread 2
Thread 3
Thread 4

but shading each row, rather than using the font colors.

and so on.

Why stop at color shading? Blinking text and neon highlighter effects would bring a whole new look.

Is there some reason the page numbers aren't next to the thread title? Sorry if this was already mentioned.

There's no practical reason that their omission bothers me, I guess I'm just used to being about to gauge thread activity.

Edit: It looks like it was there before the last change. I do love the crispness of the new layout, maybe it's a tradeoff. Pretty sure I could get used to the lack of page numbers.

In theory those page icons in the far left column are supposed to indicate the "hotness" of a thread, but I never pay any attention to them.  I'd remove them altogether if they didn't include the participation icons (aka "you posted in this thread), which I know at least one person here would miss due to my recent attempt to remove them :P

Right, I'm just not used to looking at it. I zone in on the page numbers and actually click last page number or last page button. Probably not the most efficient browsing technique, just what I'm used to doing here and on other sites. I'm sure I can adjust like a good ballplayer.

Is there a profile setting to turn off images within posts? There's often work unfriendly pictures posted in not-uncensored threads. I'm not complaining, I'm just stating.

No, but you can install this in Firefox and use it to disable third-party images (anything not from the site you're on):
