Think I'll be picking up another bottle cage before the rubber hits the road this evening...

I'm going to add another two to the wheels of steel for Saturday's mega ride.  Just too damn hot.

Not too bad tonight...hills are brutal in this kind of stagnant air, but when you are actually moving you create your own breeze.

Isn't that more of a Santa Ana wind?

Just did 20 miles from the Danger Zone to Nats Park to Georgetown and back in a little under 90 minutes of riding. Phil Wood and Velocity just gained a customer for life.

You got the big-boy wheel built, huh?

Oh yeah, totally getting the front wheel made once I get my quarterly bonus. Heres the CC hanging out by the park this morning:

The wheel may be the star of that show, but the saddle looks nagin'.

It's still not broken in but it's nothing but Brooks saddles for me from now on.

And for the love of all that is good and holy... lock that wheel up tight.

It does. That implies that you can use "balloon" style (i.e. fatties) tires. I run road slicks that are larger but can be inflated up to 120psi, "fatties" usually only go to around 85psi.

I currently have this which I can lock through the frame and the wheel and would require a hydraulic jack or a powered grinder to cut through:

I'm considering getting this which I could lock through the frame and wheel and knock heads if necessary:

That front wheel has enough of an inferiority complex without the shop reflector...that's like making an 11 year old boy wear a sailor suit to school.

Go ahead and give it a spin since bike frames are, to say the least, not standard due to differences in geometries.  I'm 6'3" and have found that I fit comfortably on 56cm, 60cm, 55cm, 61cm, and 59cm frames some by the same manufacturers.  You'll know it's too big the second you try to straddle the top tube.

Just got back from a test ride.  It's big, though not as bad as I thought it'd be, but when I'm on the bike, it's fine.  They are going to put it on Craigslist if I don't take it and would ask 800 for it but it sounds like they'd sell it to me for $600.  I think it would be tough to find anything at that price for this quality.

It'd have to fit me close to perfectly for me to spend $600. For that money, you can get a bike with decent, durable (although not top-of-the-line) components and reasonably good wheels. I mean, is this your primary means of transport, or something you'll ride a few hours on the weekend?

No, I don't expect it to be my main mode of transport, though it will be used some for that.  Lincoln has  a really nice system of paved trails through town so the plan will be to do more for fitness riding.

Did 20 miles yesterday and just did another 11 tonight including a quick roll around Hains Point. Totally owning the KOM in all categories for the 3650lb men's group and climbing the ladder for the general men's on the 14th Street Bridge.

It's nice when cities think of that. Can you comfortably straddle the top tube? Because it's not adjustable. :)

Well, I rode like that for years on a road bike. But I'd think really hard. At some point, you will come off that seat accidentally.
It's a little tight.

Maybe I'll do this.  I'll stick to my original budget of $400 and tell them to try and get their $800 on craigslist.  If they can, great, if not, well, there you go.

Right, then turn around and sell it on craigslist for $600 and spend more on a right-sized bike. :)

Kidding. I know you wouldn't do that.

On the 15 Day disabled list. freaking ear infection. Here's my next ride (~20 miles) once my ear clears:
