Here's a hypothetical: if a team offers us a decent package for Werth and is willing to pay at least 50% of the contract, would you unload him? I like Werth but it's not likely he repeats this type of performance again at his age.

Mmm... he might be able to repeat *this* performance. Power drops off dramatically in your 30s, but he's not really a power hitter. He's hitting a ton of singles, taking walks, etc. He could do that for several more years.

Look at Jayson Werth last season when he had zero power after his wrist injury. He still was valuable at the top of the lineup. The Werth contract will be an albatross at the end, but I think even when his power goes away with age he'll be a valuable top of the lineup hitter. He'll always be a valuable player, even if his contract isn't in line with that value.

You know, you look at all the big money free agent deals in the last few years, and the only ones that seem to have worked out are Prince Fielder in Detroit, and Werth in D.C.  Crawford, Pujols, CJ Wilson, Josh Hamilton, and Adrian Gonzales have all been busts.

AGon had a higher WAR in his first season of his deal than Werth has had in his three years with the Nats. This is Werths first really good season here, the jury is still out on all of these deals.

I understand...but was clarifying that it is plate appearances...not at bats...
