Someone reported a cougar this afternoon near my neighborhood in Oakton.

Bobcats are proven in Fairfax, but other than the type Spider prefers none have been confirmed yet in the area.

Here's the report:

Quote
Cougar stopped running on Cobb Hill Lane crossing into the woods across from Quarter Horse Court. This siting occurred at approx. 3:45 pm and Fairfax County Animal Control was notified.

Here's an article from 2014 regarding sightings in the Mount Vernon area.

Cougars are not a threat.  Just slowly offer a margarita and don't make any threatening moves that require showing an ID with DOB.  So I'm told.

Thanks.  It is helpful to have pictures for those who are trying to spot these animals.  We even have thread dedicated to this.

You near the bear in Vienna (along Difficult Run)?    Appears to be closer to Rte. 7.

A car hit a bear on I-64 not far from my house a few years ago out here in the Fashionable West End of Henrico County.

Cougars who have been captured have been known to gnaw off their own arm to escape...

and some have sharp spikes on their feet for attack.

Reminds me of the old joke:    A guy chews his arm off when he leaves in the morning so he doesn't wake her up.    He chews his other arm off later in case she's lookin' for a one armed man.

That bear and its cub have been seen all over Vienna/Oakton area.  Bird feeders are easy pickings.

So who's going to put a wildlife cam in their yard?

I have a neighbor with one and he's caught all the usual suspects - possum, 'coons, fox, rodents, etc but none of the more exotic coyotes, bobcat, or bear.  It's motion sensor triggered and good at night, and he says quite cheap now.

This guy collects pictures from people with their own cameras as a sort of hobby.

The snakes reminded me that a few weeks ago, playin' golf.   Ran into a "baby" copperhead in the middle of the fairway.
