As far as the management strategy... I have to assume Davey is well-aware that pitchers get worse and worse each time through the lineup, and similarly aware that Lannan is probably a true-talent 4-5 ERA guy... so keeping him in this long makes absolutely no sense to me.  Giving pitchers a long leash is fine when they're good, but Lannan wasn't tonight.

I think this is the last time Davey listens to McCatty. Davey was on the top step two batters ago and McCatty talked him out of it.

Can everyone STFU about Johnson for a few games at least? However, I started a Fire Riggleman thread after his second game or so and I was right.
This is who he is. He has always given his starters an enormous leash. Expect many games just like this one where our starter is getting rocked yet is left in to give up even more.

NOW YOU TAKE HIM OUT WHEN WE'RE LOSING!!!  >:(

I think he was letting Lannan have the chance to avoid the loss on his own - crappy reasoning.

I swear this was my thought process just now: "How could Riggleman not see this coming.  Lannan has been getting lit up basically the entire game.  He's such a moron I can't wait for him to be gone...oh wait..."

He should NOT have been allowed to face Wilson.

I agree totally, but the new mgr was probably trying to hold off and see if we could score and get lannan a win

Lannan should be ashamed. Couldn't even get 1 out from the bottom of the lineup.

Gave up the GW hit to a guy batting sub .200. :?

I second the Nix comments.

He's pathetic out there. No mobility or arm whatsoever.

The first run that scored, he had the ball before Abreu hit 3rd, and the ball trickled to the plate as Abreu slid safe. Abreu runs decent, but nothing special by any stretch. There was no excuse for that.

Then a soft liner falls two feet in front of him, and he made no effort to get it. He didn't have to dive - but he can't get his body moving fast enough in any one direction.

Then of course the go ahead single, it took him forever to get to that grounder.

There is no reason for Nix to be lining up in the outfield, especially in an American park.

Hairston should be in left and Nix should be DHing. No questions asked.

6th   B Wilson singled to left, A Callaspo scored, P Bourjos to third.

Nationals  2
Angels      3

Ryan Mattheus was the main return from the Joe Beimel trade. Good move by Rizzo? or was it Bowden then?

Another Davey freak up. Why isn't Hairston in LF and Nix DH-ing?

Oh that's right, he wanted to play Stairs :?

Riggs would have had Lannan out after five innings.  I don't like a lot of his decisions as a manager but except in a very few cases I've always felt his quick hook worked well for the Nats, since they don't have very good starters.

That actually makes sence which means it probably won't happen.

some of us believe you cannot automatically go to the pen after 5 innings and 85 pitches and the first sign of trouble in a 2-2 game.

I like Davey's reasoning. Leave the guy in - it's only the 6th and he just got a big double play. You can't always be right. By the way he just made the move and Mattheus promptly issued a walk.

Marquis De Farts is a better manager than Quittleman.
