I think we're seeing a result of constantly trying to rush back from injury. It may be better for him, overall, to simply shut it down and heal completely. Work on strengthening those ankles and come out to Spring Training ready to impress.

Yeah, hopefully that's the case. I'll be honest, I kept a brief eye on him prior to drafting him, but not enough to recall his response to injuries previously. As long as he didn't have this attitude prior, that's fine, and then you may well be right. Of course, the shift could also be due to pre-payday and post-payday... We will just have to hope for the best. Considering his injuries, the worst thing he could do is rush back. But the organization saying he will play in July/August after he says "I'm done for the year, no reason to push it for just a month." was what set off a flag for me and is moderately worrying. Likewise, nothing to do but sit back and see what happens...

There is always Arizona Fall League for Rendon, if he is ready.

The Minors seasons end on Labor Day Weekend. Kids go back to school, they shut down - except for the playoffs.

But there's always the instructional league games (instructs) and then the AZ Fall League.

#nats prospect Anthony Rendon is progressing well from his fractured ankle with baseball activities. Aiming for after/around AS break return

Rendon can't even stay on the field. He's an enigma at this point.

I'm surprised he's still ranked so high.  Maybe they think he's going to be healthy soon.

The kid can rake with the bat. There's still so much potential there and people want to believe all his injuries are just flukes.

He's either going to loose his career to injuries or be a masher- if healthy, he's probably top 20, so his ranking seems fair to me

I don't doubt that he can hit like few others - I remember reading a story that said his wrists looked like Hank Aaron's when he swings, and I'm one of the people that wants to believe he can stay healthy.  But I would think that a mid-season update would be based at least mainly on demonstrated potential in the minors, so that ranking should at least have an asterisk by it.

Where's he gonna play though? As others mentioned, season ends soon after that?

The season ends the first week of September. Even just a couple weeks is still valuable experience.

Give him a month, and maybe AFL, or something less competitive where he can still build up the ankle. Maybe two weeks at Potomac, then two weeks at Harrisburg. Then AFL on the rookie condition, like Harper's first season, when he could only play a couple games a week.

Start at Harrisburg next April, then Syracuse mid-season, then Nats in September (or sooner for the 2013 pennant to fly alongside the 2012 pennant)
