howard also had a half hour press conference covered by MLB Network (and replayed for an hour and half consecutively) giving an update.  he gained a lot of weight.

If I cared about the fillies, I'd be pretty concerned that he's blaming the shift instead of looking at what he can do to improve.

@JoeFrisaro

Priceless Ozzie moment. Reyes swings and misses first pitch off machine. Ozzie yells, "Don't be wasting our money."

heh

Wow.  Josh Hamilton has no interest in giving a home town discount to the Rangers.  That surprises me.

He's got to pay for his vices somehow.

Why? It's not his hometown and he's been producing there, so they've gotten their money's worth

It seems to me that Texas has done an awful lot to help him work through his problems.  Offered him way more support than they were required, stuck by him when he screwed up and done an awful lot in helping him resurrect what was a pretty moribund career.  I'm not saying he needs to sign a 5/10 deal, but I would have expected him to have a little more consideration than that.

DPM - they showed no interest in signing him in advance of his walk year.  IF you don't have enough faith in Hamilton to sign him early, then to expect a discount once he is on the market is a stretch.

We've got one of the few guys in baseball who says he wants to play here and actually means it (Zimmerman), the reality of it is that most guys just say that stuff with no conviction.

He'll soon be more like a left fielder, though, right?

yes, I guess.  The Rangers last year played him in LF until the they prepped for the playoffs just to save his legs.   In the regular season, they went with Chavez and Gentry mostly, but in the playoffs they moved Hamilton to CF to get Murphy into the line up.

Absolutely. To hear Zimmerman say this week about how this situation is perfect for him (he likes the organization, likes the team, likes the city, the location, etc) was really refreshing.

I didn't realize that.  Well, in that case, go get your money, Josh.

Better coke and speedballs in Miami, better whores in LA.
