:lmao: NASA:  We can send a rover to Mars, but we can't handle scaling a server for the traffic it will create.

http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/raw/ is down.

Holy crap, I didn't realize just how much bigger it was compared to the previous rovers!

I would have loved to seen actual video of the descent... including the thrusters steering the rover/sky crane/and then watching the sky crane jet off and crash. That would have been amazing video.

Is Apple sponsoring this landing?

Actually, with around $100 billion cash on hand (not value of the company, "money in the bank"), Apple could have funded 40 Curiosity missions.  40 OF THESE MISSIONS!  WITH JUST THE MONEY THEY HAVE IN THE BANK!

How can anyone say "we can't afford NASA!?"

I wonder what it sounds like there?  there's a little bit of atmosphere, so i suppose sound can travel through it.

I wonder if they put a microphone on the thing with all the other equipment- that would be cool to have sound

True, as documented by the Warner Brothers late last century.

Untrue plenty of supporting evidence. ;)

It's not from this morning.  I saw it on reddit before, along with an explanation of why the sun looks blue on Mars.  Unfortunately I'm a moran and forget the specifics.

i fell alseep with the TV on last night around 1 and woke up just as they were waiting to see if it had landed.  It was very cool to watch the reaction of the folks at the JPL.

Nice low-res panoramic view from Curiosity.

From that picture... doesn't look much different than what you might find out in the deserts out west.

It's all fake. They landed in the mojave desert.

Actually, the NASA folks at a press conference said something like, I know this is going to sound bad to the conspiracy guys, but really this place looks terrestial, almost like the Mojave desert.
