Ronnie is one of my favorite Bad Nats. He could hit a little, had a decent arm and great hands. Shame he had the range of a fire hydrant

That one DP was awesome from 2007 I think.

or maybe it was an offer he couldn't pass up for a team that is going to contend.

i don't know why so many people think there is some backstory or some conspiracy to him going to philly.  it's a business.  leave it alone.
Pretty strong consensus out there that Philly isn't going to contend.

absolutely crazy.

On paper I expect more wins from them in 2013 than in 2012, but I don't see them overtaking the Nats or Braves for top honors in the division.  I don't see the Nats winning 98 again though.  I'd say Nats get 93, Braves 90 and Phillies grab 86-88.  Close race until the end.  Phils still have a very strong top of the rotation.  Offense will be something they need to find all year long, also relief pitching is very unproven.

Nats added a true CF leadoff guy and a better than Jackson pitcher to fill the number 4/5 slot.  They remain largely unchanged.  The Braves traded a true CF leadoff guy for a power CF guy and lost Chipper.  They have to fill leadoff and LF somehow and generally are saying it's mutually exclusive.  I expect them to fill it in house with Jose Constanza.  Also they have more question marks with the rotation as of opening day due to the lack of Beachy and the loss of Hanson.  Teheran/Delgado need to step up and neither has shown they are capable yet.

All in all, I think the Nats are best set to win it again but never count out the Braves or Phillies.

i'm not saying the phils are better than the nats.  nats should be the favorites to repeat not just in the east, but in the NL.

but the phils will most likely be there this year.

Depends on what Halladay has left in the tank and if all their aging players can put up one more year of health and positive production.  I wouldn't count on all that happening for them - if you put together an aging, injury-prone team, you can't really complain when they get injured or slow down due to aging.

Howard is 33
Utley is 34
Rollins is 34
Young is 36

One or more of those guys is going to tank next year.

I think the issue is more that they have little proven talent in left and right, a weak bench and their starting catcher having to serve a 25 game suspension to start the season. Charlie's never been a wiz at handling the bullpen instead relying on the starters to pitch deep into games. I think it's asking a bit much from Halladay and Lee to pitch 230-250 innings.

Yeah, probably that too.

Also, Halladay will turn 36 early next season.  He's been amazing but I have my doubts that he will bounce back from a poor age 35 season as he turns 36.

one can make the case that one of the nats who had a good 2012 could tank this year.

they were killed by injuries last year.  i hope it stays that way, but let's not forget this team has dominated for years.  wouldn't count them out.

Sure - anything can happen.  But if we're talking about likelihoods - middle infielders don't generally hold up well into their mid-30's.  Big, hulking guys like Ryan Howard generally don't hold up well into their mid-30's.

Nats have a couple of older guys - Werth and LaRoche.  Corner outfielders like Werth have a better track record of holding up well.  LaRoche is trickier, but guys like him generally age better than the huge, 6'5" 250lb guys like Howard.

Nats will lose either LaRoche or Morse.  I think that's a pretty significant change.
