I'm pretty sure it didn't hit the wall first. It hit a handrail or something and it ricocheted back to the wall and then onto the field.

I'm watching Giants feed, they say that it hit the cement railing on top of wall which is in play. The replay looks like it hit the railing so the call looks correct, no home run.
