Leon is crucial as well.
agree. need a 3d catcher so Ramos can PH when Lobaton starts and so they can use a pinch runner when Ramos is on base late without the lead.

It's just the 3rd catcher.  They could have called up Solano.

I'm also surprised they called these players up now considering we're in LA and don't play a game in Washington until Friday.

No Taylor?
Glad to see Taylor get some more at bats in triple A.
He can come after they are over, right?

I can see why they brought up Tyler Moore and Aaron Barrett but I'd rather have the rest of the guys stay behind and help Syracuse win the Championship.

:smh: What does that get the ball club? Minors exist to develop and provide MLB quality players.

I bet every single one of those guys boarded a plane yesterday.

I am not sure Taylor gets called up.Except for his first game he surely was overmatched by MLB pitching. Yes, I know small sample size.

Let me be the first to say it.  Ewwwwww.  That's just wrong.  I've heard of 'blah blah is like kissing your sister' but 'making out with' just takes it to a whole new level of sick and wrong.

He hangs out. He steals some bases. He plays some defence. He pinch hits when the game is no longer on the line. It's good for him. Once the AAA season is over he has nowhere better to be.

On the 40-man, he will definitely get called up. As whytev said, he'll be able to pinch run and be a defensive replacement. A lot of value from a September call-up in that, even if he doesn't see any/many at-bats.

Part of the reason of for a call up is none baseball- rewarding a kid for a good season with a month of major league pay, giving a prospect exposure to the majors without any pressure and even the random feel good call up for long term minor leaguers. I'd expect taylor to be up for the first two reasons after the chiefs are out of the playoffs

Souza, Treinen, and maybe Barrett would be useful-now call-ups. Maybe Tyler Moore, also, since LaRoche has a stiff back. Souza can replace an outfielder...Werth needs a rest now and then, and Span has played a lot, as well. If Barrett has corrected the balk motion, maybe we'll see less and less of Blevins.

All good, and just at the right time.

Imagine if they hadn't made the callups they did and kept them in Syracuse.  It probably did cost Syracuse the first game in the playoffs today which also went into extras...but still...

I heard an interesting discussion recently on whether parent clubs had any responsibility to their affitiates. The consensus seemed to be that we're at the point where a single major league at bat is more valuable than a AAA championship.

Especially in a pennant race. We don't likely win today without the Sept. callups. Awfully nice to have arms like Barrett, Cedeno, and Treinen just kicking it in AAA.

If they had called up Taylor maybe Fister didn't have to pinch hit today.

Also I said Leon was huge. Catching that stolen base much? And Espinosa's stolen base running for Lobaton. Damn that is a game.

The Dodgers were in the same position, so the callups are not something we can assume we wouldn't have won without.  It would have been a different game.

Sure, but my point is, most teams don't have arms like that hanging out at AAA. It's a nice luxury to have.
