People say some crazy crap. Both believers and non-believers. Sometimes pretty damn funny, sometimes annoying.

Well, Seinfeld managed to push nothing into several Emmys and successful careers.

My wife and I sat here silent.   We found the Discovery Channel had it live (CNN was on delay and cut away).    I have a buddy who's done 12K - 14K.    His brother is a pilot in the HALO program.    We're all texting  ...  amazed.

CNN got me real angry... all the buildup and they cut away before he even dropped! I guess they didn't want to risk a PR backlash like Fox News got for having the suicide live on air.

Thank goodness the Discovery Channel had it live... including his perfect walking landing!

Not sure about the "boom" but he supposedly did go over Mach 1.   They gotta check the dynamics, metrics, etc.    Wife and I wondered, if he was in a spacial vacuum ...  or close ... how could there be a "boom"?     LOL     Should I start another thread?

The other space related story of the week is the space shuttle Endeavor moving through LA.  The images of that are crazy.

Sound speed is inversely proportional to the square root of the air density. In the upper atmosphere, sounds moves faster, but Mach number is calculated for a given pressure, so it takes that into account.

He also wasn't in a vacuum, just sparse atmosphere. Finally, the boom is caused by a pressure wave and occurs closer to the observer, where the air is denser.
