You are again relying on old and injury prone Nene to stay healthy. And this team is playing well now in large part thanks to old guys like Okafor and soon to be free agents like Webster. If you don't re-sign Okafor, who will rebound? Who plays SF if not Webster? Booker, Seraphin, and Vesely were all first round busts. Crawford was a bust but he was better than those 3.
Seraphin is not a bust. He's a guy who started playing basketball much later in life than most who make the NBA and he's improved every season (3 and 3, 8 and 5, 10 and 5). Booker was the 23rd overall pick. Most years the late first round, and even the late lottery, are a crapshoot. Booker was playing well until the foot injury late last year. Vesely is a bust, he has no discernible basketball skill despite his athleticism.
Okafor is signed for another year, that's not an issue. Webster is having a great season for him, but is still no more than a solid starter. I'd like to see Webster back if he keeps it up for the rest of the season. If he leaves, and Ariza decides not to exercise his option, you've got a starting SF right there.
This team is 11-9 with Wall healthy, a .550 winning percentage. They're 10-5, a .667 winning percentage, in games where Wall, Beal and Nene all three play. That's extremely good for a core that includes a 3rd year PG coming back from a serious knee injury, a 19 year old rookie, and a veteran post player who missed a chunk of games with a foot injury.
Oh, and as far as the "injury prone" label for Nene, the end of last year/beginning of this year is his first real injury since 07-08.
They're in good shape for the first time in years, and this time it's without the mental cases like Arenas, Young, Blatche, and McGee. Getting rid of Crawford is a big positive to keep that being the case. The first interview Doc Rivers did concerning the Crawford trade was about how they have to get him to buy into the team concept since that's been a problem for him so far. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but their locker room is far more suited to making someone get in line than the Wizards right now.
