Over the past week my agent has spoken with a bunch of different clubs about the possibility of me joining their team come February. It really is a interesting experience when you are a free agent and have to weight different options and ultimately decide where you are going to play. After looking through the potential destinations last night I decided this morning that my best opportunity was to sign with the Washington Nationals.

"Best opportunity" = worst team.

Doesn't look like he's played in the majors since 2008...

This is the future of sports media. Players will just announce stuff on twitter and their personal blogs. In 7 years or so when Strasburg is a free agent his twitter feed will look like this;

SStrasburg: Nationals and Yankees offer is nice but still have to think things over
SStrasburg: This might take a little more time this is a tough decision
SStrasburg: The Nationals and Yankees or still very much in it but their might be a mystery team
SStrasburg: I am going to sign with the Phillies

Rizzo hasn't announced it yet... so until then, I consider Antonelli a hack.

SO, he's a 2B?  More clues to an impending trade of Desmond / Espinosa?

Mike Rizzo has never mentioned the name of Matt Antonelli ever. Everything he has done in the last 18 months says he won't sign him. I'm not going to listen to the opinions of media hacks who throw crap up against the wall and hopes it sticks

Stats of this guy if it's true... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/antonma01.shtml

Nothing about him is impressive other than being the 17th overall pick.

50th ranked prospect coming into 2008.

Career took a nose dive from there.

Hopefully he can regain the form he showed in 2007, while in the minors.

Still only 25. Not much harm.

  • That’s gonna be a no from me, doge.
Hit a wall when he got to AAA.

Walks a ton.

he has a pretty big internet following (twitter is blowing up).  seems like he's really grateful for the opportunity.  as linty pointed out, 07 were solid numbers.  good depth for minors.

His blog is fairly amusing.  The drug testing story is pretty funny.

Matt Antonelli has decided to sign with the Nats. Do the Nats know about this?

Yeah, they finally confirmed the signing later in the afternoon.

He's been assigned to the AAA team with no spring training invite.

We should get him to come join us on the forums.

He'd probably give us an interview here. It's been a while since we had one of those.

I found Matt Antonelli's baseball-reference page funny it is sponsored by;

Alex Scheingross - SD Personal Injury Attorney sponsor(s) this page.

Alex is an award-winning San Diego personal injury lawyer and a Padres fanatic. Go Pads!

What kind of award does a personal injury lawyer get(besides money)?
