Selig is the anti-thesis of King Midas. Everything he touches turns into crap.

didn't Kevin Smith have a character Golgotha in Dogma that did the same thing?

So how is the pool allocated per team?  I'm not sure I understand what they're saying there.

I don't think they have all of the details ironed out. Considering that neither the owners or the players have signed off on it yet, what they have is more of an agreement in principle.

Did you have to remind me of that scene while I'm eating lunch? :spaz:

This is more a discussion for the CBA thread, but I don't think you accept that penalty (losing two first rounders) no matter who the player is. It's not like they can re-enter the draft and get a ton more money, they don't have leverage.

You don't think Purke would have reentered last year?

Who is/was better when they will be/were drafted, Bubba Starling or Byron Buxton?

Maybe, but I don't think Purke is necessarily worth losing a first round pick.

I made that post before reading Boras' statements. It will be interesting what teams decide to do.

I think the nats will still be extremely aggressive in getting who they want in the draft.

I think he is. If he had shown signs of recovery prior to the draft, he would likely have gone top-7, which translates to top two or three max in this years draft (probably 1st).

I've seen Buxton mocked anywhere from 3-11 but with these high school guys you never know.  He could end up anywhere in the first round really if he has a bad season, he values his college commitment, or he just wants more money.

That's a tough one.

Id probably go with Starling. I think the two are different players, even though they have similar backgrounds. Athletic, high school QB's, 5 tools ... But I think Buxton is going to be more of a McCutcheon type, and Starling more of a Matt Holliday type. Buxton is likely to keep his athletic build and be a speed guy with some power, while Starling will likely continue to pack on weight and be more of a power guy with some speed.

At least thats what I expect out of them. I dont mean to make it that they are identical to those comparisons, I just made it on body type and the type of game I think they evolve into.

We need  to find the next Mike Trout.  He slipped through the cracks a little because he wasn't from a place known for producing great baseball talent.  (ie texas, California, Florida)   Trout got a bonus of $1.215 million.  That is what the nats need to do.  Identify the young talent, know how much it will take to get them, and get it done.

It's true.  We should try and get the next Pujols too.  10th round pick or whatever he was.

How scary is it to think in the draft where the Rays took Josh Hamilton #1 overall, they had Pujols in for a workout prior to the draft and decided to pass on him even though one scout was so upset with the decision he retired on the spot.

Can you imagine the Rays with a clean Hamilton AND Pujols? Yikes.

That's not the point.  That would have been a scary 4 years for the rest of the AL East.

He slipped because there were questions about whether or not he could hit premiere pitching which isn't plentiful in cold weather- he ended up panning out, so good for the angels, but it's not like there is some guy in the boonies finding the next catfish hunter.

Plus, isn't that kinda what Zimmermann is?  He was pitching at a tiny college in Wisconsin and has turned into a legit front of the rotation guy.  He slipped to the compensation picks.

That's really what the draft is about, finding diamonds in the rough.

The point is to find good talent amongst all the crap in places like small wisconsin colleges or the northeast.

He went in the second round- he wasn't some farm kid we discovered playing on a dirt field

well if he was pitching at UCLA I bet he would have gone in the mid first round.
