Desmond is going to have to get a lot better at leading off, FAST!

edit: Of course, Prado was 0-4 for the Braves too, leading off.

He's not a leadoff hitter...not an excuse but just saying.

Well, not being 0-4 would have been good, regardless of his place in the order.

Michael Morse's 0-4 was even worse than Desmond's though.

It seemed like half to 2/3rd full at peak, and emptied pretty quickly around the 7th.

So we are stuck with the Nationals for 30 years, FML.  We are the Indians!

Morse's bad days will always be worse than Desmond's.

Defense was great. Offense horrible. The lack of a leadoff hitter will damn this team to hell, just wait and see. It was plainly, painfully evident today. I mean it was obvious. And why we had five hits.

And damn was it cold. Worst weather opening day yet. I'm still warming up.

We finally went into the club in the seventh - the weather was just too much for me.  I'm disappointed we lost but it wasn't an embarrassment, which was nice.  The leadoff hitter situation is going to be a huge problem if we don't do something soon, like in the next week or so.

Thoughts from the park:

Great pitching - the umps made livo strike out Heyworth 3 times on 5 strikes. Livo got hung out to dry by Riggleman as well. Riggleman needs to be fired, he's Acta 2.0.

The defense was just sparkling. What a joy! LaRoche is a gem.

Jayson Werth put on a show. Gotta love that guy! Espinosa had himself a game too. You just know every time he's involved something exciting will happen.

Ankiel looked really good in CF, not so good at the place.

Demote Desmond, I'm not even kidding. He looks so incredibly overmatched in all aspects of the game.

The umps really did suck. Zim went BALLISTIC after he struck out. He threw everything including his gum.

Love this lineup except for Desmond. I think you put Espinosa at short and bring up a 2B or even let Bixler keep the position warm for a while, but Desmond adds nothing to the team.

Coffey had an absolutely dominating inning. I guess that's why these games count. You had to be watching to see him sprint in, they made no mention of it.

Clippard was just plain silly. His changeup was incredible. Also, Livo's 60mph Bugs Bunny curve to Heyworth was a beauty.

Losing 2-0 with wonderful defense and good pitching sure beats last year's Opening Day.

here's the thing ... what do you do?

there's nobody on the roster that can lead off, that's why i was rooting for morgan to have a great spring and turn things around.

The one he got Uggla to swing and miss on was filthy, too.

Uggla looked moronic, but I didn't catch the pitch speed.

He's not a leadoff guy, they really shouldn't put him in a position where he's going to fail.  The thing I really like about Desmond is that he's got some swagger to him and seems to want to take on a leadership role, something sorely missing from the team.  No errors today from Desmond or the team; that's something I didn't think would happen today.
