I would prefer it if Viagra sponsored an award for a guy who kept a job in the majors but performed terribly.  That could call it the "Stay a Stiff" award.

Davey Johnson named NL MoY by the Sporting News (Is there another award issued by MLB?)

Yeah the Sporting News isn't official, it's voted on by players/managers I believe.

Then we're doomed.  No. Large body of writers likes Dc sports.  If they do then they are ridiculed  for being "homers"  by a-holes like skip Bayless and Steven Smith.  The Strasburg Shutdown will come back to bite us (no matter how much I agree it was the best thing to do)

There isn't a single thing that these awards will do to help us win 100 games next season. Nothing to see here. ;)

Ian Desmond and "Gold Glove" are two phrases I'd never expect to see in the same sentence.

It would be rewarding a great offensive if Desmond won a fielding award beyond "webgems."

Golden Glove really goes to a prominent offensive player at a position who makes several high profile defensive without an inordinate amount of errors.  The Derek Jeter award.  Clint Barmes need not apply.  Brandon Crawford could win it next year given his profile in the post season, but if the voting was done before the post season, that will not factor.

actually, UZR liked his defense.  Also, his RZR was better than Barmes, Cozart, and Crawford.

the Derek Jeter award.  I agree he'll likely win the GG.  I'll take the Fielding Bible award.

It would be funny if the worst of the Nats infielders, defensively, won the award for best fielding at his position.

When did Desmond kick your dog?  Ha.

fangraphs link

Fangraphs has him about 10th going by UZR and a little higher in UZR/150 since he missed a few games.  Probably not deserving of a defensive award but the GG basically has become about offense as much as defense.

I'm happy for him.  Cut his errors in half and doubled his offensive production.

Well, the media is going to want to throw some awards the Nats way, so some of the prominent guys will probably draw support.  desi is kind of the face of the year over year improvement in the team in the field (in contrast to the Harper story line, which is the new face story).  Desi deservedly has admirers.  He was an all star player / manager selection, and is the acknowledged leader, and did not let pressure moments get to him too often.

Yet you were not asked if Desmond kicked your dog.

Go figure.

Golden Glove is not really a defensive award - as noted by JCA and by me in post where you cut out everything but about 5 words.

Pointing out that he's the worst defender on a great infield does not mean he "kicked my dog."

It's just the truth.
