For those going tonight or anytime this weekend - reiterating what I put on another thread yesterday, lots of Metro track work going on this weekend, with the Green (northern part, Navy Yard not affected), Orange and Red lines involved - budget extra time accordingly.

Weather-wise, looks like it's going to be like last night - starting out about 80, getting to low/mid 70's in the late going, only 5% chance of rain (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalweathergang/natcast/).

As much as I like DPM, I wish the thread had been started by someone with hate in their heart for baltimore.

Beat-up little seagull
On a marble stair
Tryin' to find the ocean
Lookin' everywhere

Hard times in the city
In a hard town by the sea
Ain't nowhere to run to
There ain't nothin' here for free

Hooker on the corner
Waitin' for a train
Drunk lyin' on the sidewalk
Sleepin' in the rain

And they hide their faces
And they hide their eyes
'Cause the city's dyin'
And they don't know why

Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live

Get my sister Sandy
And my little brother Ray
Buy a big old wagon
Gonna haul us all away

Livin' in the country
Where the mountain's high
Never comin' back here
'Til the day I die

Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live

- Randy Newman (from Little Criminals, the same 1977 album that contained 'Short People')

Anything less than a series victory and this homestand was a failure.

This is a must sweep. The reason there's more O's fans at the DC series is that I really believe there's more O's fans here than in Baltimore. Down with traitiors!

Since Yesterday's thread was locked, I want to discuss this gem:

You've watched them both play and you honestly think Atilano should stay over Stammen?

Yes, he's outperformed Stammen this season, even with laying a big turd today.

How can anyone watch the games and say that Atilano is outperforming Stammen.

Numbers:
WHIP: Stammen 1.40, Atilano 1.71
K/9: Stammen 5.2, Atilano 4.2
BB/9: Stammen 2.1, Atilano 5.3
K/BB: Stammen 2.50, Atilano 0.79
FIP: Stammen 3.86, Atilano 5.18
xFIP: Stammen 3.95, Atilano 5.84
GB/FB: Stammen 0.88, Atilano 0.64

The only reason that Atilano has a better ERA is because he has been more lucky (better BABIP, Strand rate, HR/FB%, etc.) I don't care if VORP says that he is better. It's a useless stat for pitchers. Do you honestly believe that Garrett Mock was only woth 0.00 VORP this year?

Isn't there a thread dedicated to pitcher's luck?

How cares? By July at the latest Stammen is in the bullpen and Atilano in the minors. Neither of them have looked great. But with Thompson, Mandel, and Milone performing as well and all the injured guys and you know who this rotation is going to be vastly different. Both Atilano and Stammen could be distance memories by the middle of next year.

Yeah but have to be able to divide and multiply.

Atilano had no guts yesterday, and that was awful. The Mets starter went out after 5 pitches, but the Nats were already done for.

If Mandel and Milone are vastly more talented than Stammen, I'll punch myself in the groin. AAA stats are just that.

From what I have read they sound like the same level of talent. At that point it comes down to performance, and if we end up trading Lannan or Stammen to make room for somebody it wouldn't be the worst thing to have replaced them with themselves if someone better gets hurt.

Exactly. At this point in the season before he was called up, Stammen was looking mighty good in AAA.

Stammen wasn't as consistently dominant in the minors as Milone.

I don't know about Mandel, though.  I wouldn't expect much out of him.

Tony Plush needs to see a psychologist. These two personalities are crashing into eachother. Its hurting his day job.
