Next year we are getting Appel

No we are getting karsten whitson next year.  He has been bitten by the injury bug but is one of the top talents in the draft.  He is rizzo's dream draftee

Next year's draft is supposed to be very weak. Perfect year to have the last pick and then lose it for signing an impact free agent!

very very cool, hoping to see him at Potomac at some point next year (I assume he'll start in Hagerstown).

If no Tommy John, probably extended Spring, and then Hagerstown around now.

LANC indeed!

Can we agree that LAC/LANC will not be resolved until this offseason and next offseason is completed? by then we will have a winner and we will know for sure if they will spend money to add pieces or extend the current core. Spending Dmitri Young money on the draft won't prove anything.

btw the Nats paid Daniel Cabrera 2.6 Million for his stint, so little Gio is a bargain.

It's basically a religious debate at this point.

Send him for TJ tomorrow so he can start getting healthy!

I'm sure if they felt it was needed, they'd do it. You don't just send a kid for "preventative surgery". He's 17, if rehab will fix it, great. If not, then sure get the surgery done. It seems as though that due to the success rate of TJ surgery, as soon as there's any type of elbow injury, send him under the knife. If they trusted these docs with JZ and Strasburg, I'm pretty confident they'll make the right decision.

They didn't do work on Solis and they lost months sitting with their thumbs up their assess when I/others were saying rest wasn't going to heal his problem... Even though the "medical staff" said to give rest a chance.

Do the surgery now so he gets innings in August of 2013 and not wait and end up not getting him innings till July of 2014.

Yeah, I forgot about your medical degree... oh wait a tic... Look, I'm not doctor not do I pretend to be one. I prefer to let the team that worked on Stras and JZ handle that end of the deal. Jebus... he's only 17. Like I said, if he needs surgery, get it done, but if it can be avoided safely, isn't that the more reasonable avenue?

Doctors aren't going to perform an unnecessary operation, even if it's one with a much higher rate of success than TJ surgery.

It's basically a religious debate at this point.

I think religions being debated by their most zealous followers are less passionate than some of the LAC folks.

The real point is that they overdrafted a guy that some "experts" said they had no chance of landing and they got him signed. Being in first place with a killer pitching staff didn't hurt.

Nats fans? Landing the top talent in the draft is a good thing.

Definitely good news, and I didn't think they'd get it done with the insanity of the new CBA. Great news. How we continue to steal picks people thought would go first before injuries knocked them down after getting Strasburg then Harper? I mean wtf? Think about it. Four years. Strasburg. Harper. Rendon. Now Giolito. Holy crap. Four essentially number one picks. Four years. All signed. Damn that is awesomesauce.
