Jordan Zimmermann, Nationals Pitching Prospect: Only one run in 45 2/3 innings that spans his career with the the Vermont Lake Monsters and Potomac Nationals.

Let's hope he turns into the complete stud we desperately need.

Uh, he gave up 14 runs in 53 innings with Vermont last year. You must've been breathing whatever air I was when I made that topic claiming that Ross Detwiler and Max Scherzer were in the same draft class.

Even still, his career ERA is superb, and his K/BB ratio suggests that he can be an ace.

Actually, what I said was partially correct. He has only given up one run in 45 2/3 innings between his Potomac and Vermont career...when he pitches at home.

That part my eyes must of skipped over.  That and more come from this article off the Potomac Nationals website:

It's a bit disconcerting that he was so shaky on the road at low-A, then.  But then again, it sounds like the lion's share of his starts have come at home, so I guess you can claim that his road starts represent a small sample size.

He was at Vermont last year...Carolina League opponents haven't had the chance to do a workup on him yet.  Wait for another month or so and see if his numbers remain.

Thanks, bbq.  You have all the answers.  Forget that we have Josh Smoker and Jack McGeary in our system.

Do you have a close up of that grip?  I can't tell if that's a seam or writing on the ball between his thumb and index finger.

I think it's writing.

Yeah, I think his index finger is on a seam, his middle finger on another seam.

Yeah, I think his index finger is on a seam, his middle finger on another seam.

I am thinking it has to be writing, too.  His hand made it looks like a two-seamer as Tom described.  I tried to grip a ball and get a seam in that position, and couldn't do it in any way of getting a seam in that position and have my index and middle fingers on a seam.

Well, 21 is about the average age in the Carolina league, but the outright dominance is still very exciting.

yeah he's doing great luckily I was able to get a ? into K. Goldstein during his chat heres what he had to say:

Marcus (Fairfax): Whats your thoughts on Jordan Zimmerman??

Kevin Goldstein: Like it a lot, and he's off to a great start. Plus FB, plus BB, good command -- he could be a solid big league starter. That Potomac staff is pretty loaded, but one guy you may not have heard about is Jhonny Nunez, a lanky Dominican with 28 strikeouts against just two walks in 20.2 innings. 92-93 mph FB, low 80s SL with good break -- nice sleeper in that system.

Everyone likes to crack on Bowden, but Marlon Anderson for Jhonny Nunez seems nice right now.

Anyone know how Luis Atilano is doing? We traded Daryle Ward for him to Atlanta back in '06.  Atilano was a first round pick in the '03 draft but then he encountered an elbow injury in '06 before we got him.  I see that he pitched an inning with the GCL Nats last year but that's the last I have seen of him.

EDIT: Apparently he has been pitching in Hagerstown. 3.1 IP 4 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 1 SO

Zimmerman's stat line so far tonight: 7IP, 3H, 9S0 no runs given. Looks like this guy has quite the potential.

Zimmermann with 2 n's. It'll be important to remember that when we have two guys on our team whose names start with Zimmerma. :D
