Yeah. Wait until you are riding with someone with knobbies. The noise alone will make you want to tell him to switch tires. :)

It's been years since I changed a tire or tube but I had these on and rocking in 10 minutes.  Great, great tires.  Since today was a certain somebody's birthday I took the day off from the gym and riding (outside of testing the new tires) but tomorrow I'm putting 10 miles on these babies before I hit the weights.  Can't wait.

Will do, she told me to tell you "hi" and hoped you, your brother and son were all doing well.

Pretty good ride today with MrsMorse over to the FDR Memorial.  A good warm-up ride for Opening Day:

Wow, check out this hipster ride (fixed gear, flip-flop hub, disconnected brakes, card in the spokes, DC Voter Rights Sticker):

Unfortunately the owner wasn't around to exchange finger gun salutes and Chrome bag stories.

It has brakes. Can fixed gears have brakes?

I think clean fixed gear bicicletas look awesome. Too bad they've become the official hipster ride.

It has brakes.

Yes and no.  It has brake cables and brake grips but they were locked, meaning they were just there for looks.

Can fixed gears have brakes?

They sure can, though most do not.  If you see a bike without gears and brakes it's probably a single speed.

You'd have to be pretty dumb to ride a fixed-gear in traffic without at least a rear brake.

But you'd be distorting the ride!!!!  No brakes, no gears, no helmet, no problem!!!

To be fair, my bike only has a single front brake.

Especially today since my front brake is screwed up.  To be honest, I've never liked rear brakes for some unknown reason.

There's probably a clinical term for people who like flying over their handlebars.

:nono:

I'm pretty sure weighting the same amount as three hipsters will keep that from happening to me. ;)

How do you have a bike with no brakes?  Do you just go all Flinstones to stop or what?

A fixed gear, in theory, doesn't need brakes because if you don't pedal the bike doesn't move since the chain is fixed.

oOOOOooohhh,  I thought it was like the bikes I had when I was a kid where you pushed the pedals back to apply the brakes.

Nah, that's a coaster brake.  What I wouldn't give to have a coaster brake on a single speed. :az: :az: :az:

Unless your feet come out of the toe clips and the pedals beat the living crap out of your calves while you try to steer out of the heap of metal and flesh that you are inevitably going to end up in. ;)

I saw that.  I can't expect that lasting very long without someone having a lot of money to waste.

They already have the tennis venue on Maine AVE, SW.    Got Nats' Park and the cycling as well all within 12 blocks.   At one time they also mentioned a soccer (United) stadium in the area or right across the Anacostia.

Sure, but I can't see this venture panning out unless someone has a lot of money to waste.
