I'll defer to others, and I know he writes some insipid stuff to go with his masterworks, but Paul McCartney was pretty good in the day. The bass is the lead on a few of the Beatles songs.
I thought of mentioning McCartney, but I'm not familiar enough with his musical prowess to say yay or nay when it comes to his talent level.
