Definitely good news, and I didn't think they'd get it done with the insanity of the new CBA. Great news. How we continue to steal picks people thought would go first before injuries knocked them down after getting Strasburg then Harper? I mean wtf? Think about it. Four years. Strasburg. Harper. Rendon. Now Giolito. Holy crap. Four essentially number one picks. Four years. All signed. Damn that is awesomesauce.

Our two big stolen picks last year (Rendon and Purke) are still gimps- too soon to call them steals

"Former Harvard-Westlake pitcher Lucas Giolito has signed with the Washington Nationals for $2,925,000 just before Friday's signing deadline, according to Giolito's father, Rick."

 :D

Why is this in the major league board when there is a thread in the Farm forum dedicated to him?  Merged threads.

Q - should I split this thread into a "drafting and signing of LG" thread and an FTP thread, with the FTP focuses on stats, performance, and scouting and the drafting and signing thread focusing on the negotiations and what the pick says about Rizzo, the ownership, etc...?

Edit - I've opened a poll on this.

How bout we all agree that it will never be resolved.

LIC (Loria is Cheap) is undisputed - the Marlins "refused to pay a penny of draft tax."

Good interview. He sounds like a level-headed kid.

He went to a school with famous people, he relies on his 4 seam, also has a two seam and circle change, curve is his second best pitch. Looking forward to being a nat - coming to dc soon to watch a game then to extended ST, deal was down to the last minute, but he felt comfortable here

If no Tommy John, probably extended Spring, and then Hagerstown around now.

Zuck was on 94.3 yesterday when the announced that he had signed.   He said he's going to be in Viera for a strength-conditioning program and probably won't play in the minors this year.  Maybe if all goes right we see him in the AFL?

Isn't AFL for more advanced players?

usually, but the Nats sent Solis in 2010 with only two low-A starts (granted he had 2 years of college ball and was 21).  And of course they sent Harper.

Harper is the exception to every rule.    Giolito won't be there for a few years.

Yeah I meant extended spring next year and then they'd pitch him in short season and/or Hagerstown if we're lucky. I still think he'll probably need TJ. There's no way he pitches in the minors this year.

Yeah, no way he's in the AFL. He'll probably do strength training for the rest of the year, and if he shows that he's healthy, go to the instructional league

Little Gio is in the house!  He just tweeted he is checking in at a hotel in DC. I guess he will be showcased Tuesday night.

He was interviewed before the game then again between innings at the Park last night. He also stood and waved his hat with the military members/families when they were honored.

Hope he got to shake hands with Strassburg..."you can pitch alongside this guy, kid". And Harper: "You won't have to face this guy".

In what I think is a move that goes against common sense... Little Gio will make his first start for the GCL next Tuesday.
