Moore/Bernadina platoon next year?
« Topic Start: October 13, 2012, 05:58:25 PM »
Are you fine with trading Morse and going with Moore/Bernadina next season? I feel like the improved defense would be enough to compensate for the downgrade in offense.

What do I get in return for Morse?

Why can't we sign BJ Upton?

Unfortuantely I dont think we get much for him. I think at best we get a reliever

No, platoons are fine as a contingency plan when a starter gets injured, but not an acceptable solution for a playoff contender heading into the season.

Morse won't bring enough in return to justify trading him IMHO.

I might be saying this in large part due to not wanting the Willingham trade to go all for naught, but I wouldn't mind Corey Brown fighting for a spot in ST. He'd be less of a liability defensively, and is a lefty which are in short supply on this team, especially if Adam gets a better deal elsewhere. Also young and cheap and room for improvement.

I'm honestly fine with Morse or Moore out there next year though, in fact I'd probably prefer it over any other option right now.

I'd like to see Tyler Moore get 500 AB's next year.  I bet he hits 30 HR's and provides better defense than Morse.  Morse for a good reliever is fine with me.

He had 10 in 156 at-bats in his first time in the majors, so if he had kept up that pace, it looks like he would have. Obviously it's not concrete, but he looks like a guy who can do it. I'm with you though, I think he's an absolute stud in the making. Get him more ABs.

Agreed, Brown proved he could play, but there's not a real good spot for him unless the team wants to carry Moore, Bernie "and" Brown.  Probably not going to happen.

I liked what I saw from Brown, too and in past years, he'd have been starting the whole year.  Moore probably would have too.   I'd love to see Moore get 400-500 AB's as well.  Maybe a Brown/Moore/Bernadina battle in ST would be good.  I certainly don't think you'd see a significant drop in offense if Morse was moved.

2012 Morse wasn't 2011 Morse. I don't expect 2013 Morse to be as good.  Think Moore could handle LF regularly?

Morse needs to go while he still has some value.  An AL team could use him.  Get a potential arm in return, then let the LF sweepstakes begin in the spring.  Let Shark, Moore, Brown and whoever else is out there battle it out.  There are worse problems to have.

If Laroche walks, keep Morse around at 1B, then trade him in July for whatever we need at the time.

Honestly, the only reason I want to keep morse is because singing take on me is so damn cool.

If we move Morse to 1B I think he's useful.  He really shouldn't be in LF anymore.

If Morse had hit this year like he did last, I'd be down. But Morse was, once again, hit by the injury bug. Our number 3 hitter is already injury prone. Do we need to be missing our cleanup hitter too?

It seems like he possibly could've put almost the same numbers up this year as he did last year, but maybe slightly less average among other areas. The injury thing is the problem for sure, though.

Edit: but no, I don't want to platoon anyone unless its for a short time during an injury period or something.

I am fine with keeping Morse if he can play 1b.  I would rather have Shark as a full-time LF than Morse so if we resign Adam then I would shop Morse.

Frankly, if it isn't Morse, and we don't replace him with a free agent, I'd rather try Moore full time. Bernadina can be a 4th outfielder.

This.

A) Keep Morse and LaRoche as is.
B) Keep LaRoche, Ship off Morse, Start Moore.
C) Keep Morse, Start Moore in LF.

I'll take any of those scenarios.

I don't want option A.

Ideally, I don't either but I'd take that over some scenarios that I ran through my head. Like playing Brown or Perez or Bernadina everyday. Not that I have anything against Brown or Perez, but I don't want to give such a role to one of those guys just yet.

I mean we could wait it out one more year and finally place Hood or Goodwin or whichever one of those OF prospects we got out there.

Edit: Also, those options are only if we don't sign a FA.

1B is much easier on the body than LF is.

We have Laroche. I'd rather have Laroche than Morse at first.

The only thing LaRoche has over Morse is experience.

Morse certainly fields the position just fine and hits HR's.

It's a wash, really.  I just happen to like Morse a little more than I like LaRoche.
