I'm not going to be around to update things pick by pick tomorrow, but when the draft is over, I intend to get a full list of our picks and put them in the first post.

I was watching the video of Crow..Notes:

-At times he doesn't do a good leg kick.
-He has a violent motion
-Injuries possibly a problem?
-I hope nothing happens and know our system is absolutley stacked, all it takes is for some ML production.

From NFA:

With the 181st pick …

in the 6th round, the Washington Nationals select JuCo RHP Paul Demny. from Perfect Game back in 2006 … “One of the top pitching prospects out of Texas, Paul Demny has dialed his fastball up to 94 mph. He throws strikes, pitches aggressively and his fastball has late life.

More info on Crow.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/weblogs/chatter/2008/Jun/05/more-crow/

Quote
Aaron Crow, the Missouri right-hander the Nationals took with the ninth pick in this afternoon's MLB draft, is no stranger to the team. Scouting director Dana Brown has been watching him for two seasons and the team had a representative at each one of his starts this season.

The second pitcher taken in a hitter-heavy draft, the 6-foot-2 right-hander has a fastball that clocks in between 92-97 mph, a slider he can use as an out pitch and a strong changeup.

General manager Jim Bowden said Crow will likely start at Potomac, and if he signs early enough, could be fast-tracked to the big leagues.

"It's so difficult to get a power arm of this nature picking that low in the draft," Brown said. "He's going to pitch in the top of the rotation, and we're going to continue to put power arms and pitchers in this organization."

Bowden, Brown and assistant general managers Mike Rizzo and Bob Boone said they were all unanimously in favor of taking Crow, which is to be expected. It would have been interesting to see what the Nationals did had Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham been available at No. 9.

But Bowden said Crow could have pitched in the majors with the stuff he had during his last start of the season for Missouri. If he turns out to be that good, he might wind up being a steal at that spot for the Nationals.

I think this is the first pitcher that we've drafted since coming here that has been projected to be a #1 starter.

From BP:

Quote
Kevin Goldstein (5:18:40 PM PT): Ben F (California): Nieto at 151 looks good for the Nats. He's a switch hitting catcher with a strong arm and I thought he would go higher. What gives?

That's a bit of a mystery. I honestly don't know. He didn't have a big college commitment and I didn't hear any big dollar needs, so I'm as suprised as you. It will take some detective work to figure out what happened there.

They probably thought he was related to Tom Nieto.

Might see some sort of situation kinda like Joba in NY.  Start in the bullpen as a dominant setup guy and transition into the rotation.  Especially if it works out for the Yanks, you might see a lot of copying that.  I think he'll end up a starter long term, but I can understand the speculation of him moving to he bullpen, especially with the bullpen troubles we've had this year.  Might be a good way for him to get his feet wet at this level.

13.  Blake Stouffer - a switch hitting 2b out of Texas A&M.  You'll get a chance to see him on the ESPN family of networks this weekend too.  Had a great year last year, turned down a contract and didn't have a great year as a sr.  Has potential to be a good one, but his stock fell considerably this year.  Could be a steal though.
