Westbrook will be making his first start since May 2, as he returns from a strained left abdominal muscle that landed him on the 15-day disabled list quite a bit longer than anticipated. He made four rehab appearances, the last of which came Monday at Triple-A Buffalo, where he held Louisville to two runs (one earned) on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts in four innings. He threw 82 pitches, so he should be able to throw into the 90s in this outing against the Nationals, a team he has never faced.
In his last start against the Tigers, Simontacchi had nothing in the tank. He gave up 10 runs, which tied a club record set by Expos right-hander Shayne Bennett, in three-plus innings.
