Should Drew move back to permanent closer?
« Topic Start: September 20, 2012, 10:30:58 PM »
It's time for Drew Storen to resume his role as closer and send Clippard back to the set up role he so excelled at. Storen just has too much stuff over Clip now that it appears he is fully healthy.....better heater, better control I think and his newly perfected sinker is dynamite.
Clip has gotten into trouble with his high fastball and walks. He did a great job filling but I think it's time to swap them and I think Davey knows it.

But Jesus Christ really - don't you think Davy Johnson is smart enough and  can make this decision without your BS Slumpbuster ?

better question, was Storen's arrival the turning point for this franchise?   It seems like it has been all upward motion since he got here as the first of the "kids."

Clip just seems to have no confidence...talking to himself and falling off to his left of the mound. Not sure if it's the pressure of a playoff run or if he's just loosing his stuff.

I think, at their best, I'd rather have Storen as closer over Clippard. I just don't know if Storen has his consistency and health completely back yet, that's not something I think I'd be privy to. Clippard's a great pitcher, no doubt, but he makes things a little too interesting too often for my liking; At least more than I think Storen would.

What with Storen being out so long and Clippard doing well as closer though, I think the current setup is what we'll stick with through this season, barring an HRod-esque meltdown from the Clip.

I just have a gut feeling that it would be very wise to move Storen back to closer and move Clippard back to the 8th inning.  Storen looks very strong now.  I do not mean to demean Clippard in any way.  Just feel it would be best for the ballclub.  I suspect Davey might be weighing the same decision.

Sean Burnett is the reliever I have lost the most faith in, followed closely by Mattheus (which I hate to do, because I'm a big Katy Perry fan)

I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not, but have you seen the guy who sits ground-level along the first-base line during most Nats games? Apparently he's a season ticket holder who often gets up and dances while music is playing during the game, and when Mattheus comes out to Firework he has his own little routine that's hilarious if not a little freaky. Also he wears a single glove on his hand like Michael Jackson.

Oh, yes. His name is Tripp something or other. Really.

Dude is weird but harmless. I don't get people who dress up for games.

You need 2 closers but Clip needs to get his form back.  While Drew HAS his form back.  Drew as Primary!

Clippard has been awful since the All Star break. 1.281 WHIP 4.85 ERA since the All-Star break, not including tonight. The six home runs he's given up are all since the All Star break.

Maybe tonights performance...on the heels of Tyler's Wednesday nightcap failure...will open his eyes.

Damned shame...
