bought a 6 pack of SA Alpine Spring.  Decent but not great, kind like blue moon but with less pronounced spices.

Blue Moon isn't great by any measure, but it's widely available at sports venues, which to my stunted mind indicates the end of the tyranny of crud beer.

Heavey Seas, maker of the Loose Cannon IPA, has a new Black IPA that's really great

I just filled my growler at Whole Foods/Arlington with that. It's good. But, I would not call it a black IPA. Style-wise, I think it drinks more like a porter. There's a lot of nice roasted malt and it's very smooth. But it doesn't have the internets or hop aroma that I'd associate with an IPA. It is tasty.

Knorr Hating Me Alert: tried two seasonal and unbottled Texas beers last night. 512 Pecan Porter spiked with dried cherries, pretty enjoyable and way too drinkable for how strong it is, followed by 512 Cascabel Cream Stout, which is a cream stout with a very strong suggestion of chili peppers. As good as the porter was, the Cascabel Cream Stout earned an official houston-nat beer rating of Spec-freaking-Tacular. Seriously, I could probably have four or five pints.

Tonight, trying Deep Ellum Cherry Chocolate Double Brown Stout.

I don't know if I can agree with you here.  I've been mixing a good porter/stoudt with a good IPA for many years now.  This Heavy Seas  Black IPA seems a good mixutre of IPA wirh a good dark beer

I've recently rediscovered an old fave of mine..."Fin du Monde" from Unibroue.  Even though they are now owned by a big brewing empire (Sapporo), they make a Belgian ale that's as good as anything I've ever had in Belgium.

Well, thats my point. A true to style IPA shouldn't taste like an IPA mixed with something.

That sounds awesome, although I can't hate you for that right now.  My beer itch at the moment is Rogue's Voodoo Maple Bacon Ale, which is out of stock at the Total Wine closest to me. :(

Where'd you find that?  Their search function is useless.

Not beer per se, but I don't feel like looking for the booze thread...DC liquor stores are now open on Sundays (for the first time ever, I believe).  Costco is selling liquor today as well from what I hear (DC location only).
