Nats still have 5 days after the world series to try and sign an extension.  He is probably the best lefty option out in FA but I'd rather have Affeldt.

That's simple enough.

1 yr, 13.5 million. He rejects, we start negotiating. He wants a reasonable contract (2 years with a 3rd year option) and we deal. If he wants more, we walk and get a draft pick.

Hey Dulles Troll Road, he would obviously accept the 1 year 13.5 million.

I think the thread discussions got crossed. LaRoche would obviously not just accept his $13.5m option. Burnett would sign that in a nanosecond.

Yea, I got crossed up in threads. So no on Burnett, but not really a big deal. Pretty replaceable.

Would it help if we had a thread dedicated to pitching moves, hitting moves, etc... ?

I'd vote for a Burnett thread, a Morse thread, a LaRaroche thread.... Short of that, people should quote the post that they are referring to.

This Affeldt guy is awesome.  Must sign him if Burnett walks.

Affeldt has a tendency to injure himself in really odd ways.

I think the Nats actually will make an effort to resign Burnett.  He has been really good for the Nats and he seems to really like it in DC.  He just knows he is worth way more than 3.5 mil on the open market.  Restructure a 2 year deal for 7 a year and I think that is his ballpark.

Good to know about Affeldt.  Once Hot Stove season actually hits and the Nats have an idea of who is leaving via FA, maybe we should have individual threads entertaining certain positions like SP, RP and OF or bench and put up a list of FA or possible trade targets to get an ideal view of the playing field and see what makes sense going into next season.  Play it like a GM's big board during the offseason!

Massive threads are fun and the different threads would oftn end up talking about the same stuff.

I'm not saying individual threads for each player, just limit it to position.  Suppose the Nats don't re-sign EJax and the ensuing SP thread would be like this:

2013 Nationals SP offseason thread:

2012 Rotation - Stras,Gio,JZimm,EJax,Det,Wang,Lannan (Gorzo).  Bunch of stats showing each.

FA - EJax, Grienke, Haren, Lohse, etc.  Bunch of stats showing each and compelling arguments for why said pitcher would fit here.

Trade targets - Price, Shields, Lincecum, etc.  Bunch of stats showing each and compelling arguments for why said pitcher would fit here and what the Nats would have to give up to trade for one of these guys.

Internal options - Lannan, Garcia, Meyer, etc.  Bunch of stats, ages, development, reason for internal candidacy and repercussions of using internal options.

Clearly you have never seen him play defense in LF.

I have and in the last play off game I couldn't believe how long it took him to get to a double. Below average. His bat is way above average. IMHO he is a plus player not easily replaced.

What about Peavy on a 2 year/$30mm deal?  He could be a nice veteran addition to our rotation even though he's still only 29.  Still getting it done when healthy and he had a good year last year.  I'd endorse his signing.

Greinke Haren or Peavy would be very very nice in that order.

Minnesota declined their option on the Capper. Thoughts?
