Yes, pretty good range, excellent arm.  Perfect for RF.

The increased walks is quite impressive, as plate discipline has been what has held him back in the past.  As he fills out and matures, he should get some more power, but I like the approach he uses now of going for gappers and just stinging the ball rather than swinging for the fences.

Not that it's a huge concern right now but RF may be blocked for the next decade or so.  His range won't cut it in CF, I take it?

Why not move Harper to CF, if he proves he can handle it?

I would think ideally they come up with a high OBP guy who is an above average defender in CF, but failing that the Nats should be open to arranging the available talent most optimally, which might be Morse in left or a Morse/Platoon in left, Harper center.  But is Harper's speed any better than our last great CF, Brad Wilkerson's?

Early reports seem to be promising on Harper in CF. He could outgrow the position, but I agree he should be kept there if he can handle it. If he outgrows it, it'll probably be time for Mr. Werth to move on over to LF anyways...

detwiler got double play ball to end the inning ... looking good so far.

MLB Network is playing some AAA/International League baseball - the Lehigh Valley (Phillies) and Buffalo (Mets) game right now.

Detwiler with an okay outing in AAA: 6.1 IP 8 H 1 ER 2 BB 5 K (No Decision)

He lowered his ERA to 2.22. He has been pretty good so far this season and will likely be first on the list if we need a starter.

Maybe they'll call him back up so he can sit on the bench for another two weeks and stunt his growth, again!

Are you down on Flores?  Once upon a time this sort of performance would have warranted a  :whip: instead of polite golf applause.

I think it's time to see what he can do at an higher level now. He dominating the SAL. Teams passed on him in the draft because he was a reliever. You see what paying scouts good money can do for a team. They saw something that told them he could be a starter.  +1 Rizzo and the crew.

Not that it's a huge concern right now but RF may be blocked for the next decade or so.  His range won't cut it in CF, I take it?

Hood's got the tools to play center field.

Kid was a big time college football recruit for a national power(Alabama) as a wide receiver. That alone tells you he has the athleticism, speed, and ability to track a ball. Range isn't an issue.

Football and baseball are different in terms of getting the ball, but the natural tools are the same. He'll have to learn to read the ball off the bat and how to take the right path to the ball. Those are things that will come with time and coaching.

With that said, I don't know if he ends up in center. He appears to profile as a corner outfielder. I dont know how his arm looks since he has signed, but when he was in high school, he had a weird release, which made his arm seem below average. Im sure they have worked on his throwing mechanics, but I don't think it would uncover a cannon.

I think Hood's upside is that of a Rondell White. He could potentially be a 25/25 guy with range and ability to make the spectacular play, but lacks the arm to profile in right or throw many people out. Remember, Rondell was hampered by the injury bug so he never fully lived up to that potential, but he was still a very solid player. My favorite baseball player of all time actually. Reason Im a National fan.

It's just going to take time. I think Hood's a guy who should play the entire year at Potomac. We don't want to hurt his progress by giving him too much too soon. Hopefully we can get him into the Arizona Fall League on the taxi squad to continue his development on a day to day basis. Next year is when I think we need to start seeing it all come together at Harrisburg.

I don't think trashing the deal but praising the performance are mutually exclusive.
